Which is correct?

Well, the title is a little misleading, as the answer is already given in my textbook, it's jut that..... I don't understand why...

I am trying to practise the correlatives as much as possible, making flashcards with sample sentences. In the case of

kiu (interrogative pronoun), I understand there is a need to indicate whether the words are 'object' of the verb by adding -n.

but why in this case?

'Kiun tagon vi venos?'

This is not a direct object - am I missing something?

Marking the direct object is only one of many uses of the accusative in esperanto. In your example, it is used to express an adverbial of time and answers the question "when?"

E.g.: Mi studadis la tutan nokton.
I studied all night long.

You may want to take a look at a Duolingo posting explaining use of accusative.

N.B., there is a minor error at the end, when it says, that you should never use accusative with the preposition ĉe. That is not true, see PMEG.
