Esperanto family names

From what I understand, George Soros' family name was chosen/created by his father. Does anyone else know of anyone else, famous or not, who has taken their last name from Esperanto?

Other than the Soros family, I have never heard of this for a surname. But for a first name, I have heard of it. Stelet Kim (as in stelet') lives the US, and she is a denaskulo (a person who has spoken Esperanto from birth). I have never met her personally but I have heard that her family came to the US from Korea, and that they all speak Esperanto.

I met her a few years ago. She didn't seem very talkative, so we just exchanged a few words, but I think I got the impression that she wasn't very thrilled by her name. Perhaps she was just tired of random Esperanto speakers bringing up the subject over and over again... ridulo.gif

This is what I have read in a couple of places. Perhaps it's incorrect?
After Schwartz escaped from the prison camp and returned to Budapest, he founded an Esperanto journal. He taught his son Esperanto from the time he was a baby. When the nazis invaded, Teodoro sent 13 year-old George to stay with a non-Jewish family. To be safe, Schwartz also changed the family name from Schwartz to Soros. In Hungarian “soros” means “next in line, or designated successor”, while in Esperanto it means “will soar.” Soros was with his father in 1947 at an Esperanto conference in Switzerland. It was at this conference that George took the opportunity to leave Hungary.

I've also read that Soros is supposedly an Esperanto word ("will soar", i.e. future tense of "sori"). However, I've never actually seen the alleged root sor- used in any other context except this guy's name.

As for other famous people with Esperanto names, the only other one I can think of is Anjo Amika, but I don't know if that's her actual legal name or just a stage name. I'm guessing just a stage name.

I'd also never heard the word "sori" before, and I'd imagine it's not that common as it's not in the Reta Vortaro, but I found it in the Esperanto-English "Pocket Esperanto Dictionary".

I think the inventor of Toki Pona's legal name is Sonja Kisa.

Sonja did choose this last name, but it wasn't because of its Esperanto meaning. Her last name was previously Richard (pronounced the French way) and she was tired of people pronouncing it like "Richard" (English style), so she changed her name to a loose variation on the sound of the name, a variation that people all over the world would be able to pronounce easily.

honestly who would want to change their last name? thats like ur heritage.
