why did you start to learn Esperanto?

Esperanto is VERY fun to learn. Especially after 1 month you see how FAR you progressed!
Erinja, if I saw someone with an Esperanto pin, I would be so excited!

I've always loved languages, so much that I try to learn ALL of them ridulo.gif. But Eo is the fastest . I was reading the following in a magazine:
Paŝoj al malpaco.
I didn't know how to translate malpaco into an English word, but I just KNEW what the word meant, and this was after 2 months.
I was shocked that I was not translating into English after 2 months.

I first heard of Esperanto years ago.

When we moved to this area (South East London), I used to see a house with the Esperanto flag in the window when taking my kids to school on the bus each morning.

This must've piqued my curiosity as a few years later I bought 'Teach Yourself Esperanto' in a charity shop.
I love that story. It makes me want to put an Esperanto flag in my window - and get a nice pin like erinja (I've been looking for a pin for a bit, though with no luck so far).
As an aside - to the guys using Linux, I 'converted' to Kubuntu at the beginning of the year. after years of cursing Windows rido.gif
If you need any help with that, I'm one of those Linux guys, and would be happy to give you a hand.

I saw it for the first time on the cover of SYR3, an experimental sort of album by Sonic Youth. I read up on it, and upon finding out that it's easy to learn, I decided I'd help the cause, since I love languages and I love learning them. I guess I figured if I couldn't put it to any practical use, it could at least potentially help me learn other languages more easily.

Yes. I heard about that too. Managed to find a DVD on eBay for only a few Euro.

Look at ELNA's online bookstore: www.esperanto-usa.org (click on the link "bookstore")

In the store, scroll down and click on the "pins and insignia" link. I have the "Green star pin" and the "Esperanto flag pin".

European users may have better luck ordering from the UEA (www.uea.org), where shipping costs will be cheaper. But their catalog is only in Esperanto so it's harder for beginners.

Hi at all,

another newbie in the forum...
I started learning Esperanto half a year ago and just finished my course. The first time I heard of Esperanto was when a fellow student told me he spoke EO, and that idea of an artificial language fascinated me. I always wanted to invent an own language as a child ridulo.gif, and that interest in such projects is still current.
Moreover - it´s just fun!

another German-speaking person here in the forum. Seems they meet in the English subforum okulumo.gif

I wrote a letter to the lernu! team to ask them whether it is possible to start a "subforum" for German (like they have for several languages) but I got no response so far.
