Clearly this is the sort of cat that drinks, smokes, spends time on Pleasure Island, leads Pinocchio astray, becomes an atheist, joins the Communist Party and sells out its country, and finally falls into depression, takes to drugs and succumbs to an overdose.

The image of divinity in people's minds can vary, according to their conditioning. It follows that some may indeed be unworthy of acceptance.
But I would say that honesty is more important than any claim to belief.
