BestBadger:Hello, I have done some research into Esperanto though I have not yet found if Esperanto is gender neutral. Or more specifically has gender neutral pronouns like can exist in English; such as singular "they". Any insight into this topic would be very helpful. Thanks! This topic has been repeated ad infinitum on many Esperanto forums. You may want google for those.
On one end of the spectrum we have those who think there is no need to change the original system. On the other end we have those who have already changed to something. And quite probably the largest group is somewhere there between. Akademio de Esperanto just recently decided not to decide about the matter, but the two most used candidates are ri and ĝi.
Rather than trying to convince people to use something, use yourself, be an example and see if it catches on.

Altebrilas:https://lernu.net/gramatiko/vortordoThe marker for an object is a necessary part to liberate the word order. Without such we would also need a formal subject which is even more incomprehensible than the accusative as a marker.
...and yet we need mandatory accusative!
I would personally prefer if there were more markers in Esperanto. A particular mess I am thinking is the non-consistent marking of the essive and translative, i.e. being in a state resp. becoming into a state. You can read my posting (in Esperanto) elsewhere.
