Go to White House 2 to show your support for Esperanto as the international language. Email all of your Esperanto peeps and have them take a whack at it too.

If someone could provide a translation for this in Esperanto that would be great and I will also amend my blog post with the translation.

Thanks

Tomo S. Vulpo:I would, but I am not a U.S. citizen.
It doesn't care. I supported it.

And in spite of I think that Obama will not do it, I hope yes.

Thanks for the link.

Sorry, can't do it. I'm not a U.S. citizen.

It does care.

I'm not going to behave like the US government, always giving unsolicited advice to other countries.

Regards,

Daniel

That is not even an official US Government website*. It's just a forum. You are wasting your time.

You cannot legislate Esperanto into such a position; it would have to be gracefully adopted by people the world over. How can you force anyone to accept an international language? If the US Government said to Moscow, "we will speak Esperanto at the table as it's our choice of international language", The Kremlin would laugh and tell them to iru hejmen.

Best thing to do is channel your energy into learning the language well and using it with other people in other countries. You will help make more friends that way. On a more cynical note, I am British but live in the USA; I cannot talk about Esperanto without being laughed at or people thinking I'm either crazy or a subversive. Let's educated our own people properly before trying to change the world.

*"White House 2 is completely independent of the U.S. government. The site is managed by Jim Gilliam, under the direction of U.S. citizens like you."

Independent, yes, yes it is. It is also a place to spread the word of Esperanto. Someone from the incoming government might pay attention to sites like that.

If you are looking for an official site go to Change.gov and speak you mind. I did and I mentioned Esperanto a bit.

I can understand why you feel that why, but I have to respectfully disagree. I certainly don't expect the new administration to do as we're asking. (And the site is not asking for legislation. Only active promotion) I do think it could be a useful forum to promote our ideals and increase public awareness. If we succeed in this, even to a small degree, I don't consider the time wasted.

And BTW, I regularly wear my Esperanto hat to customer job sites. I'm frequently asked "what's that" and get laughed at after I explain. I don't care. I've got broad shoulders. The ridicule was worth the few converts / friends I've made in the process. lango.gif

It's that kind of attitude that prevents it from spreading.

You are never wasting your time when promoting Esperanto. BTW, I find this group for organized Esperanto promoting on the internet: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/reago/
