Do you know past stems as noun or adjective in any language, like 'thought' and 'past=passed' in English?

In Spanish:
1. Un meo, 2. una meada and 3. una micción
are nearly the same, but with different nuance:
1. action.
2. effect.
3. action and effect.
1. and 2. are more popular, while 3. is more serious.

Why, if meo is so concise, meada is more often?
