Greetings all,

I was wondering if you could point me to any articles (the more professional the better) that say that learning a foreign language will reduce the onset of Alzheimers, increase your IQ, and various other sundry and health related benefits.

Thank you,

Google search?

Ummm..... yea... okulumo.gif
I am looking at that too. rideto.gif

I was thinking that others might have such links bookmarked, which would save me quite a bit of time trawling through the vast amount of results to find truly applicable links.

Isn't this the wrong question to ask? I'd rather ask for articles about 'the link between language learning and health effects' instead of boldly asking for an article that states what you want to be true. That's not what science is about, and if you think it is you're acting like the big money-hungry companies.

You have a point and are definitely correct.

I know for certain there are studies that show a beneficial relation of multilingualism and health, especially Alzheimers.

Your approach is technically correct from a clinical standpoint. I am not a professional researcher nor a big company.

I just know that these studies exist and I would like any links to them. rideto.gif

Supposedly, your IQ should not be changes by any action. You just have it.

The IQ tests are supposed to measure an inherent ability...

So by definition, e.g. learning a language should not change your IQ. However, I guess your "mental flexibility" and your ability to solve problems in general and to "see things" you didn't see before might increase. And that might (in reality) also change your IQ.

But if you want to get a higher score in an IQ test, read a good book about IQ tests and try to pick up some good suggestions.

Who ever said that? IQ is certainly greatly influenced by genes, but in no way unchangable! And I don't think IQ tests try to measure only an inherent ability either.

The following Wikipedia Page has many external links related to your query. (I don't know if this helps.)
