As it's Christmas, and almost the New Year, I thought it would be nice to raise the flag for all the people who make Lernu.net possible. Thanks to them, we have a great place to go to discover Esperanto, learn Esperanto, and practice Esperanto. So, thank you Lernu!

Tial, dankon Lernu!

Agreed. This website is a fantastic learning tool and it must take a fair amount of work.

Dankon!

Lernu is not the reason that I became curious about Esperanto, but it is definitely the largest reason for my sticking with it and the single largest contributor to what proficiency I have with the language.
Lernu.net is an amazing resource that is actually well-designed, fun to use, high quality, and vital.
Thanks to all of the people behind the scenes who make Lernu function so well, and to all of the great folks who contribute via these forums!

Lernu! may not have been the only means of my learning Esperanto, but it played a very important and valuable part in laying the foundations, not to mention practising the language afterwards. So a green star with thanks to the lernu! staff, from one grateful learner:

This may be a good time to remind you guys that although the brunt of the translations etc are created by volunteers at lernu, the core content of the site, and most of the programming, is done by a small group of people who are paid for their work, and rely on lernu for part of their income. We also have server costs associated with keeping the site running. We get some amount of income from the advertisements you see on the site, but most of our funding from the Esperantic Studies Foundation. Unfortunately, this year the ESF's assets have lost an incredible 40% of their value, due to the stock market crash. All projects funded by ESF, including lernu, have had their budgets severely cut back as a result. The lernu team has had to pare down the projects planned for next year, due to financial constraints, because the new reduced budget.

So if you enjoy the site and you're financially able, I encourage you to make a donation to help keep it afloat.

You can find information on how to do that here:
http://en.lernu.net/pri_lernu/subteno/finance.php

If you don't have the ability to help financially, or if you don't wish to, we also welcome practical help. If you have programming skills or language skills, we welcome programming help and translation help. If you have any other skill that you think may be of use to us at lernu, please contact us! Just e-mail teamo@lernu.net and you'll reach the whole team.

I can't donate, but I too am thanking Lernu, especially since it allows people from all across the world to Learn Esperanto and communicate with each other, even when it isn't exactly about Esperanto - this and many other freedoms I have found beneficial to learning the language, being able to go at my own pace and all. So dankon Lernu team!
And hope all works out in la Novjaro!

For making a small donation to lernu's UEA account, how does one use the UEA website? The options listed under "Aliĝoj, mendoj, pagoj" seem to include only making payments to UEA itself.

erinja (Mostra il profilo) 26 dicembre 2008 14:26:50

You can pay into a UEA account by credit card using https://db.uea.org/alighoj/spagilo.php

Indicate "alia celo" under "pago-celo", and write in the notes box that the payment is for account lern-a

Or, you can use the UEA's system of intermediaries. That means that you pay money to a UEA representative in your country, and they pass the money along to the UEA (notated for the correct UEA account). You can find your country's UEA payment representative adn contact information here: http://www.uea.org/alighoj/perantoj.html
