So I'm skipping school, decided to dedicate it to Esperanto

Yeah. Well it's exam day, and I don't have to take my english exam. I showed up for the first exam, took it. Either I stay there for 2 1/2 hours and do nothing, or I could come home. It's funny, I know the cop at my school. I said "can i just go home? I don't have any exams to take"
"*Ehem* you aren't supposed to do that. Hey look, there's something I need to do. I hope you don't try to leave school *wink*"

Ah, he's my favorite cop

Anyways I'm going to spend today learning esperanto. Can anyone get on aim? I'd love to talk in Esperanto

Is the US education system stricter than in Australia?

*I use past tense as I finished highschool last year and the koala probably isn't up in the gum tree @ school anymore.

Sounds like the koala liked the security just fine, and would prefer not to move unless he had to. Or perhaps koalas have to move through lots of eucalyptus trees to get enough food?

Back on topic though, is skype common enough for practicing esperanto?

And @ Miland:
Koalas do move around quite a bit for the sake of it, when I think about it. There's always the problem of the biology teacher going up to the tree and taking numerous photos of it though, maybe the flash annoys them.

We have them in school too, but we don't call them cops

We had security guards in my high school. Mostly they wandered the halls between classes and stopped you to ask if you had a hall pass, if you were out during class. And they kept a lookout for people who don't belong, entering the school. My high school was in an urban area, and one time a disgruntled parent came in and threatened someone. But mainly the guards just prevent the kids from skipping class and being in places where they aren't supposed to be.

I am pretty sure that the school security guard would be the one who searched your locker if they suspected that you brought drugs or weapons to school.

We have security guards too. Their job is basically to walk around and heckle anyone who doesn't have an ID on, to catch kids skipping school, and to handle visitors.

And to carry out all warrants for flogging or execution out behind the stadium, of course.

Hm, we have nothing at all at my school; we can pretty much leave whenever we want, even though we're "not supposed to"...

The problem is that teachers are too trusting; unless you're going to pass them directly, they just assume you have a good reason to be out of school... They just make it waaaay too easy for us! senkulpa.gif

And when we have exams, everyone leaves anyway, if you don't have an exam we don't have to be at school. As long as we're not loud round the exam rooms, they don't care what we do!! lango.gif

When I was in school, if you finished exams or didn't have any exams in a day, you could leave at will or not show up at all. They didn't want people on the property if they didn't need to be there, so anyone who didn't need to catch a bus was encouraged to go. It's still that way where my older teens go to school.

Where I went to school was a pretty rural area when I was growing up, and the area where my older kids live (with their dad) still is. Maybe that makes a difference.
