(OT: What is Esperanto for 'Kitten Huffing', it was mentioned in the Uncyclopedia article & I just have to know okulumo.gif )
THAT article in Uncyclopedia should be avoided at all costs! *grin* lango.gif

Lumturisto:No way to tell them apart (for those of us not linguistically competent enough)? Can you pin down say a collection of good writers and trace their articles? Sorry my dumb questions, never been into wiking apart from just using them occasionally.
Since anyone can edit any article, of course there's no simple way to tell for sure. If you are simply looking for any good online text to read and practice and learn from, I'd suggest perhaps something like http://liberafolio.org (website with news about news and events in Esperantujo) instead as a more consistent source of grammatically good Esperanto. (Or if you're interested in general world news from a Chinese point of view, with a lot of sound files to listen to that may or may not work depending on your computer, since they insist on using .rm files or mms://*.mp3 files which often don't work for me but sometimes do, there's http://esperanto.cri.cn/newindex.htm )

But if you're interested in Wikipedia articles specifically, look for "articles of the week" (Artikolo de la semajno) on the front page - presumably they would be good quality. Also there are 2 links: Pliaj elstaraj artikoloj • Legindaj artikoloj ("More outstanding articles" & "Articles worth reading") on the front page.

Here's a random biographical article I read recently out of interest, since I had just read an autobiographical short story by the author; she had a quite interesting life, both joyful and tragic as a Japanese Esperantist married to a Chinese Esperantist during WW2, and the relatively short article seems pretty good from a language point of view:

Thank you for the info Russ sal.gif , I take it on board.
Yeah, dictionaries and encyclopedias is the form of literature that I prefer, as ridiculous most people would find it. If some for spiritual reasons open randomly the scriptures to look for an answer to something, ramdon reading of encyclopedias is equally juicy. Borges was in the club too.

Frankouche:Absolutely yes. Yes yes and yes! It's THE reference, particulary this wikipedia page
Uncyclopedia:“En Soveta Rusio, Esperanto parolas VIN!”
My goodness I love the lame Uncyclopedia humour, especially the Russian reversal and "all your bases are belong to us" adoptions (adaptations??).

Perhaps, if Esperanto is to be truly taken seriously as a valid world language, we should have our own version of Uncyclopedia, with things like helpful articles on katidenspirado (Thanks for the translation Oŝo-Jabe!).

Pinning down a set of good authors is easy enough, but Wiki articles are another matter.

The late Claude Piron and Don Harlow have written a number of articles on the internet. But most of the best Esperanto authors are only available in print.

In my view the two best guides on good authors are
(a) Boris Kolker - see his anthology Vojaĝo en Esperanto Lando.
(b) Don Harlow whose recommended reading list is still on the web and well worth consulting.

An Esperanto Uncyclopedia already exists, it just needs articles. okulumo.gif
