Rogir:I have Ubuntu but I don't use it because it doesn't connect with the internet here.
I hope you (& Hispanio) have tried the Ubuntu forums - they can be very helpful, remember to post good information about your set up to get meaningful help (& sorry if you have already tried this!).

I use Ubuntu in English but was extremely impressed at how easy it was to get Esperanto keyboard support to work, with an easy switcher on the taskbar.

May I have more information about how to set up my keyboard for esperanto and to have this little switcher in my taskbar ? What's the program you use ?

I am really surprised (& pleased!) at the number of people on Lernu that say that they use Linux.

Perhaps it is no coincidence that the people who want to use free & open source software are also the people who take the trouble to learn the international language?

I think, these 2 things are related, too.

But, now, I think, that is the problem, The Linux extend fast(this is not problem ridulo.gif ) but the Esperanto isn't malgajo.gif Why?

I deplore, Richard Stallman doesn't speak in Esperanto ridego.gif

Otherwise, I use Kubuntu, and I love it ridulo.gif It is amazing ridulo.gif

I have Windows too (dual-boot), but use it only for gaming, as that's something Linux isn't that good at okulumo.gif

But I don't use the Esperanto locale, but the German one (my first language). This is because, while neither has _all_ interface elements translated (some are still in English), I think the German one has more...

Just out of curiosity, what distros are you Linux users using? I see that some of you are using Ubuntu and one wrote that he is using Kubuntu. What are the rest of you using?

I ask because I had Ubuntu 8.04 on a spare computer and it worked fine. Then I installed 8.10 and I've had quite a few problems with it. I am partial to Gnome rather than KDE. Has anyone tried PCLinuxOS Gnome 2009? Since I'm using Linux on a spare computer, I'm thinking about ordering the installation disc and trying it out. How about Mandriva 2009?

A difference between Linux and Esperanto is of course that even if you were the only one in the world using Linux, it could still benefit you, although a large community certainly helps. Esperanto, on the other hand, you cannot speak alone.

I use Slackware Linux on my main PC and have a second PC with Debian that I use with various peripheral devices that I could never get to work with Slackware, such as a graphics tablet. I use Slackware on my main PC because I record music on it using Ardour, and I find Slackware to be way faster than Ubuntu or Debian. I've been learning or reading about Esperanto for about as long as I've been using Linux full-time. I don't follow technology advancements much anymore, but I'm very glad that I never have to use Windows again okulumo.gif. I've always been fascinated with technology and communication, so it makes sense that I've gravitated towards both, though I'm more interested in 'interlinguistics' than computers these days.

I use Ubuntu as well, and I must say, it's very odd for me to see so many fellow Linux users in a part of the Internet that has nothing to do with Linux -- it's not even all that geeky. Well, learning Esperanto may be a tiny bit geeky, but it's not quite up there with Star Trek, D&D, etc.

I started using Ubuntu in late 2007. I've learned a lot since then, tried a few other distros (though ultimately stuck with Ubuntu), and even installed it on a friend's computer without a hitch. It's been fun and I've discovered that, at least for me, Linux is a very nice OS.

I don't know if Esperanto is so geeky, I'd rather consider it idealistic, although an interest in languages could be another reason to learn it.

I'd say that Linux itself is also idealistic in most cases - a free O.S. based almost entirely on open source. Hopefully one day computers will be like television - free content all the time ridulo.gif

Also, I've used Ubuntu before, but what's the latest version out there for Intel and PPC (if any still?) ?

Also, anyone else here use Kubuntu with KDE 4.0 thru wubi?
