I am re-installing WoW onto my computer now because of this thread, most of which I haven't even read, primarily due to nostalgia.

I played Warcraft in college, then WoW later...until my computer was stolen. Haven't played it since. Let's hope I don't get too too sucked into it this time around - but if I do, oh well. It's fun.

I have thought of this too, but not with World Of Warcraft, but on a free MUD, in particular The Two Towers. There used to be an Esperanto MUD, but its not online anymore. Anyway Two Towers is interesting, because of the involvement of language learning. You can learn Black, Orcish, Sindar, etc. Its the type of game that is a forerunner of WOW. I used to play it more, but have been busy. Especially that one can choose an Evil character like Uruk Hai, and kill elves is quite jolly. This is one of the better MUDs for speedwalking and aliases also. The interface reminds me of a linux console, with no pictures. The mail system is even similar to system mail in linux.

It's been downloading updates and patches and such for the past 7 hours and is only about 25% of the way through! I "cancelled" my account in June 2007, but all of my characters are still there! I don't know whether to be impressed and happy, or frightened.

Hours of downloads and patches is normal with a re-install of WOW. Don't worry, it works out OK. (My wife's the WoW player. I stopped games like that at Telengard.)
