Hi,

I'm planning to learn esperanto using my pda. The courses here look promsiing but they are either scattered across 300 seperate html files or in pda format. Neither of these is particularly useful for my pda.

I was just wondering if anybody could recommend some compiled single HTML book-style documents I could use to study? I have had a look around the net and while there is plenty of material, unfortunately most of it seems to fall into the the scattered format.

In addition if anybody could recommend any other things conducive to pda learning e.g. flashcards I would like to hear about it. Again, I know there seems to be a lot on the internet but anything that comes recommended or ties in with a course I could use obviously has extra value.

thanks (or dankon?)

What exactly are you after? Are there any differences between an easy-to-use HTML book style PC course and an easy-to-use HTML book style PDA course? When you say 'book style', what exactly do you mean? (sorry for the myriad of questions, just trying to understand what exactly you are after, because I know plenty of people, like myself, who may even be able to reorganise a course to the correct format for you if we know what exactly you're after).

I haven't a PDA so forgive me if this is a stupid question, but have you tried using the Lernu! PDF version of the courses? Albeit some are outdated, they are already in a more 'book' like format okulumo.gif

Nice to see a new face on the forum too!

Hello,
You can find some ebooks at Project Gutenberg.
There is Esperanto Teacher and A Complete Grammar of Esperanto.
This can be good to get you started, but I strongly recommend that look for something more interactive to get more acquainted with the language.

My apologies - I should have clarified my PDA is not capable of reading PDF files so unfortunately I cannot use the lernu pdf's. Obviously this is not a situation I'm particularly happy with but I'm trying to make do with what I have.

By book style I really meant just some single composite HTML that I could store as a file and open up - basically my problem is just a formatting one.

I think Dezassete has given me what I want anyway ridulo.gif

Thanks dezassete, I should have taken a closer look at the gutenberg. When I originally opened it up I had a quick scan of the page and thought they were all non-instructive translated works. Hopefully these will do nicely.

As to the interactive aspect of the course - couldn't agree more. I'm going to try and either make my own or see if I can procure some flashcards (fortunately my pda has some fairly good software for flashcards).

There are many tools out there that can convert PDF files to text. This looks like it will work correctly with Esperanto characters: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/access_onlin...

You can always look more on Google if you wish.

I have these two loaded into my Sony PRS-505 and they format very nicely. It is fantastic to carry them with me when I'm on the road.

Hi

I think I have already said, you can use Open Office to make your own HTML pages (or pdf's, or many other formats). The HTML editor in the Seamonkey browser is also brilliant for automatically making an index with clickable links.

You also can't argue with the price - free.

I read A Complete Grammar of Esperanto on my digital camera lango.gif! It was very good! Unsurprisingly I had to use the plain text version because my camera does not support HTML.

Man alive! My camera barely supports the photos it takes! What kind of camera is it? (sorry completely off topic)

I'm planning to learn esperanto using my pda. The courses here ...
I bought an mp3 player, but it also stores unicode encrypted text and it came with software that lets me save videos in avi format and it holds jpg pictures and lets me record my voice, oh, and it does a couple other things too. I'm not exactly sure if a pda does those, too, but what I'm doing with my device is to listen to the mp3 files I downloaded from beginning courses here at lernu.net and I saved a couple video short clips that I found on the internet in esperanto and today I opened a pdf and copied and pasted the word list portion of my lesson from the opened file onto a document that I saved in text. Now I have on my portable device some mp3 lessons, videos, a text document for memorizing my lessons, and I can listen to my own recorded voice played back to me. I signed on to the Ana Pana course, so I suppose my next step is to chat on that TUJMESAGxILO feature at this site.

Uh, so, good luck to us I guess.
