Hello all.
I've been learning Esperanto for less than two weeks and I'm liking it a lot.

I was wondering if someone could recommend a podcast aimed at beginners for me?

I've been listening to a Learn Esperanto album (from "LinguaShop") and Radio Verda (I understand about one word in ten on RV, but I think it's seeping a general feel of Esperanto into my brain.)

Is there anything for someone just starting? I've got a longish commute, so any audio learning tools are a useful way to fill that time.

Any ideas?

I would also be very interested in this. If there isn't one already, some of us beginners should start one. Might be fun to try to read the news using only simple words ridulo.gif.

Well, there’s a podcast (no longer updated) called esPodkasto. This was not done explicitly for beginners, but the hoster was pretty much a beginner, and speaks slowly.

Another podcast, meant to be for beginners by a beginner, was Lingvokasto, but it doesn’t seem like that got off the ground. Maybe you can contact Matt and encourage him to keep going rideto.gif

It depends on what you're looking for. If you are looking for some other educational material, there are a couple options. Here on lernu! we do have an audio adaptation of the course Mi Estas Komencanto. Although it would probably be better to listen to as a supplement to the course, you might get some benefit out of the audio version by itself:

There is also a 25-episode course called Jen Nia Mondo. It was designed for broadcast on radio stations. I found this to be a great supplement to the other courses I was doing. It has dialogues in Esperanto and explainations in English. To my knowledge it is only for purchase at this time.

I got it from Esperanto-USA, and I'm sure others carry it.

If you're looking just for a radio program not educational in nature, but geared toward beginners, I don't know of any at this time. There are at least a dozen podcasts in Esperanto ( http://esperanto.lodestone.org/ligoj/#media ) but they require about as much knowledge as Radio Verda does. Among them is the NASKa Podkasto, which shows promise for beginners, but still only has two episodes.

Although not useful for commuting, there is also Radio Esperanto; I believe these are recorded articles from La Ondo De Esperanto. If someone you know has a subscription to the magazine, you might be able to follow along while you listen so you practice your reading and listening skills at the same time.

La magazine Kontakto is pretty good articles for less advanced students, as it uses simple language and limited vocabulary, but they have not yet made them available in audio form. Perhaps we should request it!

Hi! I've also been scouring the internet for podcasts in Esperanto, to no avail. I am sorry to find that there aren't any for beginners. If anyone does find one, or starts one - I'd love to know as well. I've been using the audio lessons from here, but they aren't going to last long.

In the meantime, I'll keep looking and hoping. Perhaps there is one in the works as we speak! ridulo.gif

I think what would be more useful is if there were transcripts available to a general podcast like radio verda. It would be especially useful if they were put on lernu so that the "pop over" dictionary would be available for beginners. Maybe some people would be interested in transcribing them?

In terms of audio lessons, you can probably find some on youtube. But I recognise that isn't quite the best option for many. There is then the alternative of finding a way to download the youtube FLV's (flash movie files) then converting the format to that of your choice, or you can stick it out with Radio Verda. Also on iTunes I think some things are regionally based, for example the Australian iTunes store will have the AEA's podcasts where the US store may not (I wouldn't know though because the US store isn't in my concerns lango.gif).
Look for podcasts by different EO societies and associations. As for transcribing, I agree with awake ridulo.gif

Thanks everyone. Especially Traevoli, loads of useful stuff there.

I'm going with Mi Estas Komencanto for now (Yes, I've picked the free thing!) but there's some very tempting things in the esperanto-gb bookstore (AND shockingly an "erotica" section! And I thought Esperanto was so cozy and pure!)

I'll need to get some books too. Relying on audio is a problematic.
(I've been hearing "hurbo/herbo" for "city" then today I see it's "Urbo" which makes much more sense. At least I noticed before I told someone I used to live in the grass.)

I distinctly remember accidentally discovering a series of lessons in podcast format by Sylvan Zaft. Curiously, they seem to have vanished from iTunes, but I did manage to find a site that lists the title of each lesson: http://web.mac.com/sylvanzaft/Esploranto/Esperanto...

Perhaps the creator of the podcast series could shed more light on its disappearance.
