It's basically a virtual world, and there are people from all corners of the globe who are 'residents' of Second Life. There are already a few small locations dedicated to Esperanto, but I think there needs to be a lot more!
I believe we could significantly increase the number of Esperanto speakers if we used Second Life to our advantage! I have considered making another small Esperanto location as well.
So just try it out! You will meet many Esperanto speakers! And also feel free to add me. My name is Jacob Aries.
Can't wait to see you all in-game!

I'll probably check this out soon.

jsewell94:... There are already a few small locations dedicated to Esperanto, but I think there needs to be a lot more! ...I wouldn't call "Esperanto-Lando" a small location! Bonulo and others have done a superlative job in building a classroom, library, meeting areas and hang-out-zones there! I previously owned a "meeting place" for Esperantists which sadly is no more.
My friend and I have a home in Second Life and Esperanto is certainly used in and around our house and art gallery, both in signs and in conversation.
I am Venn Easterwood in SL, look me up

Pharoah:I tried Second Life once a while ago, but it was extremely slow. It took like 30-60 seconds to load each view, and I had cable internet back then. I might try it again, but I've also heard creepy things about the people on SL (no offense to anyone present).Yeah, I quit SL for a few good months when it took 10 minutes to load anything. i think they fixed it now though.
I've heard the same about creepy people. Though it is a community and your probably going to have creepy people and hear about them (they make up the news).
Though, if your too creeped out I think you can get help from a Game Master or someone like that to get the person to back off.

When you enter Second Life, expect it to be the same as "real life" only virtual. It's not sugar coated, there are some very adult things go on. There are also some amazingly beautiful things. Art, culture, friendship and a sense of social gathering. The "creepy" stuff is there for those who want it, but it's no more in your face than it is anywhere else online
Your slow issues could be your video card compatibility.

Unfortunately I don't think my internet is quite fast enough for it, so I might have to wait til I move in another month for college (where I know there's an Esperanto club, so maybe I wouldn't need SL that much to interact in Esperanto).
Nonetheless, having a virtual mentor or something would be awesome.

I just think there is so much potential for Esperanto within SL. With so many people from different parts of the world, an international language is almost ideal.
Anyone have ideas on how we can do so?

jsewell94:Anyone have ideas on how we can do so?Check in with the World of Warcraft guys here, see what they tried when grouping together, what didn't work, what did work, etc.
