If the Community got Rosetta Stone to do a program on Esperanto - It would really be great! More People would actually go to lernu for additional sources.

Go to http://bit.ly/RYLzV And tell them to create an Esperanto Edition

Why anybody should study with RS (which basically takes you nowhere) for a huge amount of money, instead of starting at Lernu is beyond my comprehension, especially since the content here is cheaper and better.

Don't forget there's also Kurso de Esperanto.

But I wrote them anyway. The more people see the word Esperanto in a non-negative context, the better. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have a version of Rosetta Stone for EO.

I try not to put down language-learning products, but Rosetta Stone has never impressed me. I've tried their method before and got VERY little out of it. (except an empty wallet)

To be honest, I would prefer to see a Pimsleur product in Esperanto. If it wasn't for Pimsleur's Polish course, I probably would have starved in Krakow. Neither Rosetta Stone nor Pimsleur could be considered inexpensive, but I can honestly say that I got something out of Pimsleur. I have also used their first Mandarin course, and what little Chinese I know can be credited to them.

However, at the end of the day, I'm not sure if either would be really necessary. There are enough free or inexpensive resources out there for Esperanto learning that an expensive course would probably be redundant.

I think they ŝould make the esperanto versions and add them as bonuses to their other language courses.

Like buy the Spaniŝ RS or Pimsleur and we'll even throuĝ in the Esperanto course completely free! haha, and after people find out how hard it is to learn a natural language they miĝt look into the Esperanto bonus course.

Althouĝ I agree with andogigi about their being enouĝ free learning material on Esperanto that it wouldn't be necessary, but still more publicity would be nice.

That is an excellent idea. After all, it would be really cheap to make an Esperanto version of Rosetta Stone. No grammar to teach, fully phonetic spelling. If only that could happen, it would be awesome.

PS: I like what Lernu did to your English orthography ridulo.gif.

Just to add my weight to the anti-Rosetta-Stone sentiment going on here, it is in my humble opinion a truly useless peice of software, and probably all the moreso for a language like Esperanto that is already easy to learn without resorting to gimmicky non-principles like "learn naturally, like a 3 year old does!").

That said there probably is a need for a more elegant Esperanto teaching program. Kurso de Esperanto is already a thousand times better as a teaching resource than any version of Rosetta Stone will ever be. Perhaps it's time for a new more spruced up version.

I only liked rosetta stone for french. Learnt some good pronunciation tactics with that. But, a 'free' version of rosetta stone already pretty much exists and that is www.livemocha.com

Not only that, on livemocha.com there are excercises in each unit for the most-supported languages where you read out a passage into the microphone or right down a text answering some questions, and it'll be marked by native speakers in a matter of days (you can continue with later units while you wait). Free, and much better, quicker and easier than rosetta. It makes learning another language like learning Esperanto at lernu! in my opinion okulumo.gif

livemocha also have a community drive to have an Esperanto course too, but I don't know if the LM team will go ahead with that until they can spare the time and effort - after all, EO is easy to learn elsewhere, it's better business to work with improving the services for natlangs rather than a conlang which has its own learning site (lernu).
