Garibaldi
Wasn't he a private detective and no longer a member of the crew by that time? And a struggling alchoolic? And, as you stated, manipulated by the Psi Corps... That just cannot count! lango.gif rido.gif
Actually I think he still was on the crew at the time, but I think that was part of the reason that he left. Can't remember. I guess I'll have to watch the series through again to be sure lango.gif
Janeway
I did like the episode were that alien tried to have them accept his ship under "false advertisement" so he could send the crew into borg space to get back at them for making a deal with them causing his race to be assimulated.
I never saw that one, it must have come after I stopped watching.
Plus the characters never seem to use the bathroom
Get into the 24th century my friend: they had micro transporters up their ass! Wasn't it you who said they always had a technolgical answer to anything? rideto.gif
You're right, of course. I apologise. They probably just never mentioned the micro-transporters because it's a program aimed at children as well as adults. That must be why they never bathe, too. I bet they have special dirt-removal transporters that don't re-materialize the dirt.

It's not long after 7 of 9 came on board officially. I think it's called "The Gauntlet". It had a (rare) nice true sci-fi feel to it talking about revenge.

Nah, it does re-materialize. You didn't ear about that "asteriod belt"? rideto.gif

Plus the characters never seem to use the bathroom or bathe (until Season 7 of TNG, as I recall)
Starfleet personnel used a sonic shower.

So do most of the B5 people (everyone but the officers, it seems). What is weird is not that they would have a bathing method other than water, but that it would just not be mentioned, period. I understand how it wants to show a utopian future - no money, no religion, no racism, no poverty (at least not on Earth), but no bathing and no mention thereof goes a little far for me!

It's like slogans for healty food: No Fat! No Salt! No Sugar! No Taste!

It's funny how we can think of so many ways to goes faster than light and improve our ways of life, but the only idea to improve staying clean is the Sonic Shower. They had that in Seaquest as well and I'm pretty sure I heard it with some other shows.

They have probably seen too many TV commercials for sonic jewelry cleaners!

But I think Star Trek should use the "transporter" method of bathing, it's so much cooler to re-materialize the person but not the dirt, rather than some boring old been-there-done-that sonic shower.

It would be cooler, but there would be some problems: How many duplicates of the cast would you have running around? I'm not sure if a commanding officer would except the excuse "Sorry I'm 20 years late, but there was a shower accident, and they had to put me in a transporter loop.". Then there is always the possibility of someone from the Holodeck appearing right beside you. And what if it was miscalibrated and you materialized in the toilet.
All in all, I think the sonic shower would be safer. Heck if I was there, I think I would be all for replicating some hot water, and taking a shower with H2O.

That's a very good point. B5 doesn't have replicators, so they have sonic showers for their crew, but you would think that the replicator-equipped Star Trek-universe ships would make more use of water.

Now for my next question. If sonic showers are used in so many shows, and are obviously popular ideas, then why don't we have one yet? Or do we and I just don't know about it.

Oh, I suppose we do. Powerful ultrasonic cleaners are sometimes called "cell disruptors." ploro.gif
Does that give you an idea why we still use old fashioned water?
