I just hope that the new movie will be good since I've heard rumours about Matt Damon in it.
I eard that rumor too. William Shatner apparantly approuved Damon in a younger Kirk re-cast. It gets better: that was another rumor concerning Mr Spock: Yep, Ben Afflect! We shouldn't trust everything we ear...
I'm kind of ticked that we'll have to wait til 08 for new episodes of Battlestar Galactica.
Right now, I'm ticked I have to wait for the next new SG1 episode after the Christmas cliffhanger.

Scary if any of that is true. I guess Starfleet headquarters will have moved to Boston!

I grew up with TNG, could never get into DS9 or Voyager, watched a few Enterprise and thought it was okay. I discovered the original sereis a few years back, and LOVED it!!! Here would be my rankings:

TOS
TNG
Enterprise
Voyager-DS9

Has anyone seen Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda? I discovered that series earlier this year, and like it better than all the Star Treks. Although my favorite Sci-fi ever is Stargate-SG1 (for some reason I can't get into Stargate: Atlantis).

Peace,
Byron

You should watch Babylon 5, if you haven't done so yet. It puts the vast majority of modern science fiction to shame.

Dr Who knocks them all into a cocked hat (imho)

Please, don't hold back, tell us how you *really* feel about B5. okulumo.gif

New or old? I really like the new one a lot. I've only seen one episode of the old but it was hard to get past the bad special effects.

In any case, B5 is a completely different kind of show. I don't really see it as "competing" with the doctor, since they are so completely different.

I grew up with the old Dr (I remember thinking that Jon Pertwee would never be as good as Patrick Troughton!) and will always have a soft spot for it. The special effects may have been cheap and nasty, but there were some cracking storylines.

I do love the new stuff though. And the first of the new season that started last night was terrific.

I have never got into B5 - it passed me by, somehow.

I'm old enough to have watched the original Star Trek when it first aired, and I thought it was wonderful. I dutifully went to see the movie versions too, although they started to get a bit thin. I also enjoyed TNG, and still watch the occasional reruns from time to time. Voyager and Enterprise didn't grab me, but that probably has more to do with me and my interests (which included less and less TV) than the series themselves.

As for Dr. Who, I quess one always thinks the first Doctor one gets to know is the best. In my case, it was Tom Baker. And I thought the cheesy special effects were part of the charm of the program, which always had a slight element of tongue in cheek. Tom Baker managed to keep that element going--never took himself too seriously in the role. When TB left, I lost interest. I've watched a couple of episodes of the new Dr. Who, and my initial impression is that it's trying to be real, serious, sci-fi, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I'm not sure how serious it's trying to be. But I think the storylines are a lot of fun Haven't seen the first episode of series 3 yet, I expect to download and watch it with my mom sometime this week.
