I just finished watching a documentary called Cracking the Mayan Code. The link can be found here.

As a lover of languages I found it to be fascinating and am wondering if anyone knows of any website that might teach some of the Mayan writing system since i would like to know a little more about it in depth (I'd love to learn it, but my want-to-learn-language-list is growing like a weed). Also in order to learn the Mayan writing system in depth one would need to learn the Mayan spoken language as well, since it is a partly phonetic written language (in other words more time needed that i don't have.) but either way I still would like to know more about the written language.

Anyways I thought I'd share the link, and open up a topic about Mayan (since i know there are many language lovers here).

Here's an interactive website, if you haven't already seen it.

Have you checked out Omniglot? It has some really good info and also a lot of additional links. It is a really cool page!

as an aside, I found the Yucatan peninsular to be a fascinating place linguistically. Out in the jungle there are these small villages that still are basically un-spaniardized (?) and speak Mayan dialects and eat traditional foods etc.

All around that area are place names likes Xcaret, Xel Ha, Tikumal, Chetumal, Ekbalam etc. If that doesn't stir some exotic interests nothing will. Can't wait to make my 3rd trip to Mexico....whenever that might be.
