Now if only Esperanto could have an anthem like that!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rhk3HdqGL7g
Ever heard of La Espero?

Rogir:Indeed I have. When I said "an anthem like that", what I meant was "a good one", as opposed to La Espero, which is an awful one (IMO).Now if only Esperanto could have an anthem like that!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rhk3HdqGL7g

As a side note, the youth movement has developed its own shout:
"Esperanto! Estas nova kanto! Mia, kaj via, la lingv' internacia!"
Best sung in large groups on crowded city squares.

Rogir:"Esperanto! Estas nova kanto!"Aaaaah, thanks, I finally understood. I heard this sentence as “Esperanto estas nova kanto”, and I thought “How the hell can a language be a song?”

"La Espero" doesn't have such an exciting tune but in my mind, it's no better or worse than most national anthems. Rarely do I hear a national anthem whose tune I actually enjoy; most countries seem to pick the most boring, undistinguished tune that they can possibly find! I think that the Israeli anthem is my favorite of all the ones I have heard.

erinja:most countries seem to pick the most boring, undistinguished tune that they can possibly find!Well, I find the anthems of Hungary, Germany, Greece, the EU, the already mentioned Soviet Union, Romania, Ukraine as rich, potent melodies I have quite enjoyed. Usually I notice that most classical music and opera is a *lot* less inspiring than most national anthems.
I think that the Israeli anthem is my favorite of all the ones I have heard. Now that's a boring anthem! Not as dull as the Japanese, but still it's one of the least uplifting melodies I have heard, especially compared with the anthems of Spain, the Netherlands, or China. Oh well, quite different tastes indeed

erinja:There's an alternate tune to "La Espero" that some people like a lot better. But I've never heard the alternate, so I couldn't say whether I like it better or not.I do like Israel's, and also Romania's, the United States', and also France's, Germany's and the United Kingdom's—and Wales'. Even to some extent Esperanto's. The People's Republic of China's is a little propagandistic, but it has its charm.

So I would say, I do sort of like anthems in general.
