erinja:The Wells dictionary is not just a dictionary. It has a grammar guide in the front, with examples. The grammar guide has a list of all of the official and most of the unofficial affixes, with examples, so you can see how to use them properly. When I was a beginner, I referred to that grammar guide constantly, when I wasn't sure how to say something.

The other dictionaries are fine, but they are just dictionaries. The grammar guide is what makes the Wells dictionary really special, and invaluable for learners.
Is this the dictionary you're talking about?
Concise Esperanto and English Dictionary

The price is a bit steep.

That's the dictionary, but that's the old edition. Wells has been working on a new edition, which will be published in 2010. According to Miland's posting in another thread, the new dictionary will cost $22.95 as a pre-order and $36.95 if you wait till it comes out (plus $4.50 to ship it within the US via USPS).

Come on! Are you really complaining about these prices? The big new Esperanto-German dictionary from Krause costs 128 Euro!

128 Euro?! I'd buy my own country!

Speaking about that, how is the republic of New Holland forming?

ceigered (Profil anzeigen) 23. Dezember 2009 17:33:47

Quite slowly, probably because I'm the only person for it at the moment and my bank account balance looks very similar to a circle after an "S" with a line through the middle ridulo.gif

I missed Miland's post about Well's new dictionary. Is there a website available with additional publishing and pre-order info? My old copy of Wells (light blue cover) is slowly falling apart -- pages coming loose, spine broken, etc.
