For those of you who do not visit the Esperanto language forums often, a new game has just been started that may be familiar to some of you. Werewolves, known as Mafia to some, is a game of deceit wherein the villagers have to discover the werewolves before they are all murdered themselves. The game, including a more detailed explanation, can be found in Pri ĉio cetera (the last subforum in Esperanto).

Dank' por la inform', amik'. Kaperu ni la homlup'!
(Imagine that with a redneck accent, as we know all medieval villagers with pitchforks and shovels had)

I love that game! My esperanto is not so good unfortunately but I will try to read and watch from the sidelines. rideto.gif

The silent ones are often the most dangerous. You are welcome to join if you like.

It was long ago, so the original URL is here: http://en.lernu.net/komunikado/forumo/temo.php?t=5...
A new thread about the game Werewolf (Mafia) is here: http://en.lernu.net/komunikado/forumo/temo.php?t=1...
Another thread: http://en.lernu.net/komunikado/forumo/temo.php?t=1...
And I have a proposal: In these threads, people simulated the game by messages and forum. But what if there were original online game "Werewolves/Mafia/Palermo"? Should it run on Miniclip or on Lernu? Will someone create it? Would you like this idea?

At this page the game is called "Werewolves of Thiercelieux", but in Slovakia it is known as "Town Palermo". What should be the name of online game? This Czech site call it "Palermo", but it is with werewolves. I think "Palermo" is acceptable for French users too and it is neutral for werewolves vs. mafia. It even can be user interface setting, as well as language (English and Esperanto is enough). Assignment of roles will be automatic (random). During the night, Cattani (seer) asks for mafians (werewolves), they kill (at least 2 must concur), during the day vote is held on who is mafian (every player has possibility not to vote), player accused with majority of votes is dead and he becomes observer during rest of the game. Mafia wins when there is only one living citizen, citizens win when all mafians are dead.
Unanswered questions: Should the page run on lernu! server, or on some game server (e.g. Miniclip)? My idea is, that the game will be accessible from both lernu! and Miniclip, while lernu!-users will have their user names and Miniclip-users will have random names. The access would be as simple as to "Tujmesaĝilo", having possibility to invite a player (with notification like postcard).
Should users have photos? I think yes, for better association of potential coalitions of mafians vs. citizens.
More questions you can write to forum or to me via messages.

I did not know of this game until I read the post, today. I would play. I understand much more Esperanto than I can speak or write (yet). The link to the forum shows players from every time zone, so it is good that they played in the forum. If players share a time zone then the Tujmesaĝilo might be fun for villagers and also casual observers to speculate on the progress of a forum game; maybe? My speaking is still tied to using dictionaries or the Lernu Vortaro, but I might borrow a camera to attach to my laptop if the game uses something like Skype or Ekiga. I joined this thread and I will watch to see if there is a game to join. If I am lucky, the werewolves will kill me first and I won't have to talk much.

Huh, I always thought that "Werewolf" was "Luphomo" because of the song, but research has proven me wrong.

Maybe it's because "Wolf Man" is a thing in English that it seems more natural to me.

Were is from the old-English word that means man. It's one of those antique out-dated words that we don't use anymore like weregild. Literally, were-wolf is like saying man-wolf.

People, Werewolves are abuse of original game Mafia! It was made as money-maker for French game developers who reused the Soviet idea and added new features. You need no playing cards to play it! Let's look better on the Werewolves: they indoctrinate young people to believe on supranatural creatures (werewolves) and abilities (seer). Even the role of lovers endorses players to redefine relationships, because homo lovers are allowed. Original Mafia was much better. But I will give a last feature: the vampire. In (Slovak version of) Mafia there is a role of mirror, who has this ability: when mafioso shoots at mirror, mafioso dies. In Werewolves the vampire can serve this role. (Sorry for Bitefight players, but let's pretend vampire is stronger than all werewolves.) Anyway, enjoy the game, regardless of its name.

BTW: How to shorten Esperanto word "parenteze"?
