I'm sorry that you didn't find lernu's resources sufficient to become fluent. In my opinion, true fluency cannot be attained by visiting any website; rather, you need to learn the basics (via book or website or whatever suits your learning style) and then find ways to speak the language in person, whether through Skype, or through attending Esperanto events. To me, Esperanto immersion, attending an event, is the best way to improve your capability.
This forum is not really the place for discussions with the lernu team. I suggest you continue to e-mail teamo@lernu.net for discussing site issues. I am sure that we can help you work with the code for the vortaro, as you originally requested. A hint that will help you in your communications with the team: the lernu programmers are not native English speakers. While they can read English-language messages and respond to you in English, I wouldn't ask them to read extremely long English texts that are copied and pasted from websites. It's difficult for non-native speakers, and takes a long time.

Moosader's suggestion for an API would be a great idea and much more useful and meaningful.

erinja:As I explained to you in my e-mail, Talisman, I have almost zero understanding of how the site's internal parts work. I am mostly ignorant of this topic because I am not involved in that part of the site. My involvement has mainly been as an interface with users, as a translator, and as a tutor, among other assorted small activities.+1

The lernu team are a group of unpaid volunteers.
As such they do a great job and deserve kudos for their efforts.
There is a big difference between offering to help that team and demanding that they release source code.
Perhaps people could offer to work with the team, on terms acceptable to the team, and develop some credibility, before expecting more.

I always thought lernu is open source.
So that's why the lernu platform is too bad, especially for smart phones and tablets.
I wish you could use modern technologies like HTML5 to make a responsive site.
If you make the lernu open source, I'm sure developers will help you to make a better site.

rayeshman:Really?+1. Undoubtedly many developers would contribute, if the lernu team just wanted to let them. I suppose there is money involved... and memberships.

For instance: Upon registration at lernu!, you automatically become a member of the non-governmental and non-political organization E@I. Non-governmetnal and non-political, but obviously not non-profit.
So I guess, since the so-long-praised-and-promised new lernu! has never come, and at the same time duolingo has picked up Esperanto, someone is going to face the blackberry fate.

geocine:Please reconsider opensourcing lernu, placing it on github. Every nonprofit projects I know has been sucessful in using github. A lot of opensource projects as well switched to github.
