I get the impression "fiŝkapti" means "to fish (for)", so "fiŝkapti moruon" would be an example of its use (that is if it really is transitive).

Transitivity should be able to help decipher some things - "fiŝkapti" used intransitively probably insinuates that "fiŝ-" is the implied object. "hundmanĝi sian manĝon" would probably insinuate "to eat your food like a dog" where as "hundmanĝi" alone would insinuate eating dog.

"La hundmanĝado de via manĝo estas abomena" would insinuate that the person being spoken to is eating their food like some rabid dog, where as "Via hundmanĝado estas abomena" would insinuate that the person is offended by someone eating dogs.

I'm sorry, pooch lovers, I really, really do love dog...s... rido.gif, and would never eat them myself, it's just convenient to write for these examples okulumo.gif

It's still a fairly artificial way of saying things. I'd go with something like "Via manĝmaniero estas hund(aĉ)a".

"Your eating-manner is CLUNK BZZT canine-like" *steam escapes through vents on head* lango.gif

I think it's hilarious that my humble, apparently mis-named, question has sparked such a vigorous debate!

I hope in practice, you never need to clarify that you mean "eat like a dog" as opposed to "eat a dog"... rido.gif I would probably avoid that whole construction altogether

(The assassin example is better than the dog one.)

Or....
La hundmanĝreĝmortigisto! Now try and figure out who's doing what okulumo.gif

@Halycon: Hey, that's what we're here for (or at least me) - to debate seemingly obscure topics as if they're international politics or moral issues rido.gif

I would understand this as "killer of a/the dog-eating king".
