The accented letters are not in ASCII but they are in the Unicode and Latin-3 character sets. Here are the codes for both:

Ĉ 264

ĝ 285
Ĝ 284

ĥ 293
Ĥ 292

ĵ 309
Ĵ 308

ŝ 349
Ŝ 348

ŭ 365
Ŭ 364

Latin-3:

ĉ 230
Ĉ 198

ĝ 248
Ĝ 216

ĥ 182
Ĥ 166

ĵ 188
Ĵ 172

ŝ 254
Ŝ 222

ŭ 253
Ŭ 221

i'm sorry but could you please explain how to go about using these unicode/latin-3 codes?

If you want to type Esperanto letters then don't even worry about the character codes, just use Ek or Tajpi or reprogram your keymap with Keyboard Layout Manager

If you're on Linux you may find that it already has an Esperanto keymap ready for use. If you prefer the x-sistemo then you could use SCIM, I'm using that at the moment and it works well.

I use the online Melbourne notepad.

If you are using the open source OpenOffice.org Writer, it is easy. On the toolbar, just click on Insert--Special Character--pick the character and click OK. OpenOffice is available for Windows, Linux and Apple. MicroSoft is going to make it a bit harder for you.
