What is Esperanto for 'software'? It does not appear in the Vortaro.

"programaro" ("softvaro" does exist, but ain't used AFAIK)

I hear "softvaro" being used sometimes. I have never heard of "programaro" before today.

I've heard both. From what little I can say though, I'll say this:

- Programaro = from "programo", thus lit. "group of programs". Perhaps a bit more ambiguous, who knows. But I suspect the meaning crosses between that of "programs/programming (configuration)/program suite" to the meaning of "software" (see below at softvaro).

- Softvaro = I'm assuming that this refers more often to the world of programs as a whole. E.g. "softvaro estas netuŝibla" (Software is intangible). Because this is not made up of existing EO roots, there's no real room for different interpretations unlike the more ambiguous "programaro", but because it's not made up of prior EO roots some might not want to use it altogether!

But this wiki page suggest that they overlap in meaning a lot more than I've made it sound. So really, just use which ever you want.
