Saluton,

Even though the lernu site is well done, I'm looking for Esperanto learning software on GNU/Linux such as dictionaries, translators or learning software.
Can anyone recommend me some? ridulo.gif

Here's what I found so far:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/793 (French-Esperanto, but I know French, so it's ok)

http://www.kurso.com.br/index.php?en : Did not work for me. I get the following error:
$ kurso3
kurso3: symbol lookup error: kurso3: undefined symbol: initPAnsiStrings
$ kurso
kurso: symbol lookup error: kurso: undefined symbol: initPAnsiStrings

Also, are there any IRC translation robots in #esperanto and #komencitoj?

If you're talking about the channels on Freenode, yes there is a robot called KioEstas which can translate words. The help page is here: http://kioestas.fridim.org/

There is also esperanto-spellchecker for Firefox.

I learnt - 4 years ago - esperanto by Kurso. But I never got that error. Later I will try to install it.
But, tell me, what distribution are you using? I will try it in my Sabayon.
And in which part of installation did you get that error (make, makeconfig etc)?

Sammondane,
Ĥod

@tommjames
Thanks. The bot seems to work but is very slow.

Apparently, anyone can add definitions to it.
This is good as long as it doesn't get vandalized.
There don't seem to be a lot of definitions too. :/

@Rodrigoo
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10. I installed it using the Debian package.
Haven't tried installing from source yet. That might help.

I'm using Ubuntu-9.10 too. I just installed kurso from the Debian package and it works fine for me. I do not get your error.

I had to install mpeg123 too since kurso uses it to play the sounds (but that's something else):

$ sudo apt-get install mpg123

Do you have a 32-bit architecture?

I have 64-bit where it doesn't work and I tested it in VirtualBox (32-bit) where it worked.

edit: Solved with getlibs: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=474790
getlibs -i kurso-3.0.deb

Sound doesn't work very well unfortunately.

Hey, install the Windows emulator 'wine' for Linux; then install the Windows version of Kurso de Esperanto using the Wine program you installed. It should work fine; this is what I used to complete the Kurso de Esperanto. I found that it worked better (quicker, better sound) than using the Linux version of Kurso de Esperanto on my Linux O/S. Good luck!

Saluton

Also useful is

Esperantilo

which is an Esperanto text editor. It has loads of useful features including X system to accent conversion, built in dictionary & thesaurus, spell checking & more than one level of autotranslate.

hope this helps
Guy

And very unreliable. It seems to me that its downtime has in the last weeks been longer than its uptime.

Well, these definitions aren't mainly supposed to be used by learners. Most of the time we add humorous things to the bot. If you find a vandalized item, you can remove it by !forgesu .

I don't actually know what happened with the definitions. Probably a spambot added quite a few unwanted items to it and deleted the others (there were like 800 pages once). I think I'm going to contact fridim concerning this issue.
