"But Jesus (with standard disclaimer - assuming he existed)"

Normaly, I stay out of arguments like this, but I really should stop trying to please everyone and make my opinion heard more often

Even the most hardcore athiest will admit the EXISTANCE of Jesus, Pretty much everyone knows he existed. The only people I know of who flat out deny his existance are scientologists, and that seems funny to me, because they claim to be compatable with all the worlds' faiths, but denying Jesus' existance automatically excludes not only Christians for obvious resons, but Muslims as well.

Wow. I guess that pretty much everyone you know is pretty different from pretty much everyone I know. I know plenty of atheists who don't believe Jesus ever existed. And I don't really much care if not believing that Jesus existed also negates Islam. Islam has plenty of other stuff I don't believe (if I believed it, I'd be a Muslim, right?), so adding this one to the list doesn't really bother me. Christians can feel free to have their opinions in this regard. Muslims can feel free to have their own (differing) opinions. But the "proof" I have seen for the existence of Jesus hasn't seemed very convincing to me.

Discussing about religion is absolutely useless. Faith is resistant to logic and demonstrations. None of us can proof the very existence of GOD. So, let’s stop being harsh and fastidious… Let’s believe what ever we want, and respect the faith of others.

If GOD really exists (I hope so) HE MUST BE PURE LOVE… (maybe not)

Love and Peace to you all!

I'm not an atheist, but I can barely admit my own existence, so really it's a matter of what you decide to believe without sufficient proof. The reason for my post was to counterbalance what I perceived to be a logical fallacy, and that's all. If you accept certain notions as true, great! If you had a revelation, that's awesome. However this doesn't mean that those who had none have to follow yours.

I just think it's odd that someone who calls themselves either Jewish, Christian or Muslim doesn't believe ALL of its tenants. That would means you believe in your OWN religion.

My opinion as of now is indeed that every believer seems to accept a local, personal variation of an organized religion. I am not sure there are two followers of the same religion that can say to agree on each and every dogmatic point. In other words there is no real orthodoxy, or is perhaps extremely limited.

Religions are to me like board games with personalized rules... you can play Monopoly and allow bank loans, or not, but you still call it Monopoly (and I concur that it is not exactly proper, under a strict classification). When the quantity of changes becomes critical, a schism happens.

But this is fine to me, I think everyone should have their own relationship with cult and rituals. The more the better. Everyone should be encouraged to find out their own truths, with little to no unsolicited indoctrination. And, yes, if I were to speak Esperanto deliberately avoiding to apply the accusative ending, it would not be fair to say that I am an esperanto speaker, I agree.

The difficulty arises that there is no universal agreement what those tenets are. This leads Christians either to "unchurch" one another ("you don't believe as I do so you're not a proper Christian") or else to agree that it's OK to disagree about some things (and then fight over what those things are!).

For myself, I'm content to give the hand of Christian fellowship to anyone who says "Jesus is Lord", and honest respect to all people whatever their faith because each is made in the image of God.

But there are plenty of places on the internet I go to argue about faith: I'm not very keen to do it here.

I agree, let's keep the discussions here to safe topics, like politics and race. okulumo.gif

You can feel free to practice your English here, if you want. We don't mind if your English has many mistakes. I think that your English is probably better than my French - and the 'inhabitants' of the French forum could certainly tell you how bad my French is!

Anyway, thanks for your viewpoint. It is an opinion that I haven't heard before, and it's a very interesting thought!
