3rdblade:How about a nice bowl of potage (potaĵ)?A French word that has been successfully imported into English that ends in -age sounds like a good idea. Your suggestion and menage (with an accent on the 'e') are both in the Concise Oxford Dictionary. And of course we have camouflage, agent provocateur and bon voyage. Possibly collage and montage as well.

Ŝiru_Ĉi_Tie:My bad, I never realized they were two separate words until now. I have never used or heard the singular-t word used and mistook it for 'pottage' -- even their Wiktionary definitions are very similar.It's no big deal at all though - I think pottage and potage came from the same word, like words such as "Eld-" (Elder) and "Old", someone pronounces them differently in different areas or social classes and then people use both afterwards.

I'm thinking of the song of Grace Jones
from Edith Piaf "La vie en rose", where there is the sound "ĵe", not far to "aĵ", in "je vois la vie en rose - ĵe vŭa la vi en roz"I'm finally surprised that english speakers could not say "aĵ, ĵ", it seems very easy to me "aĝ = adĵ, -d = aĵ", but of course, what can be easy for natives, can be either difficult for others...

But subtitles don't do a very good job of teaching language. In most cases, you need some extent of formal or institutional study (or personal study), because subtitled foreign movies don't do much in the way of teaching people the orthography, grammar or even correct phonology of a language
That said, I can't stand dubbing in most cases. You rarely see a good dub! And most have really strong US accents (well, Anime at least).
(and yes, we can all easily make a "ĵ" sound, it's just that there are so many accents as the person above said, that we have to find common ground)

We German speakers are so accustomed to dubs from English-language movies that we don't even notice that the lip movement doesn't fit with the sounds coming out.
