Pulu - 18 word language???

This is crazy. It's a language with only 18 words but you can say so much. What do you think about this;

I have doubts about the expressiveness and the precision of Toki Pona, so your language makes me very skeptical.

These languages have been cited here, over and over again, and they don't impress me at all. If a language is to be global it has to be able to talk about all range of matters including scientific jargon, political and legal terminology ect? And really… 18 words? I learn about 18 Esperanto words a day, and if someone’s not willing to put in more then a days work into a language then what’s the point. Also it may only be 18 words, but think of the entire context and word combinations you would have to remember just for it to be of anyuse. Any until I see the Bible or Shakespeare translated into it I’m not impressed.

I have to second the above opinion. Any language's counting system that defines 9 to be nipinipinipinipipi needs a serious redesign!

with 37 syllables.

I don't believe that 18 root words will be enough for a complete language but if you want to try, I think even two-letter roots are long for such a language. You can simply use letters as root, with a little more difficult pronunciation. (See also Mirad)

For example if you set:
ma=e, ka=i, mi=u, na=n, la=l, pi=p, tu=h, ki=k, lu=c (ĉ), ni=o, pu=v, ku=s, ta=t, li=d, mu=m, ti=y, nu=x (ŝ), pa=r
and use "a" as support letter, 30 May 2010" could be written as
day toppa tato ol odhaday topoppa ol laday top tato tap tato
Now there are only 21 syllables, but still so long.

It's definitely a creative idea though (even if dates take up entire paragraphs). While I don't necessarily agree with any assertion that it might be good for international communication (Ok, I strongly disagree), there are still good things here. For example, we can see that you don't need many roots to create a large variety of words, and this reinforces that it should be possible to create languages with simple syllable structure, yet many different words that can be differentiated between (of course, with numbers like nipinipinipinipipi, Pulula doesn't match this criteria).

So, I wouldn't write it off by calling it a bad language, rather it's a neat idea, only it's rather useless in terms of international communication, especially since numbers and other concepts, a big driving force in international relations and very important in the transferal of facts and data (things that intelligent beings essentially exist to share) are too hard to express.

R2D2!:Pulu is to people as (ahem) mental ruining is to computers. Both languages have small vocabulary, are functional and structured; but excessively long.

(even if it is an actual name lango.gif maybe replace the original name with "this", link the word "this" to a page about the BF programming language and then put a language advisory warning for little children)

But that's kind of what I was thinking - BF is an awesome idea, just not quite as practical.

In all fairness though, even practical languages have funny nuances with them...

It's an interesting novelty and it is amazing how much can be said by reworking such a small amount of data. But, let's face it, if 100 pages of text in a typical language translates into 500 or more pages in Pulu, then the language is of little practical use.
