I guess you're more accustomed to it. I don't eat either. I've heard about Marmite that people either like it or they don't.

I remember reading once that in the early days of Marmite, a competitor (which was the same stuff) came along, called Parwill. Their slogan was "If Marmite, Parwill!" or something on those lines (sounds more effective with Australian accent). Parwill later became Vegemite and stormed the world, except for all the countries outside Australia and NZ.

Then again this kind of sounds like a story told by a drunken uncle... Where's my Parwill, Ma? We only have Marmite, Pa!

I was aware of that - I just felt like joshing around with you all - and I read the same thing 3rdblade, about Parwill. Including the part where it dominated all of the world minus 90% of it rido.gif.

And Miland, I have to agree, I don't like any of them either. I do feel like I should stick up for Vegemite after reading that page that called it a knockoff though rido.gif

That should be
Mi fandas fromaĝon kaj cepojn sur mian rostpanon. "I melt cheese and onions onto my toast". Don't forget to provide an English translation for Esperanto texts in the English-speaking forum; you can leave it out in the Esperanto-speaking forum (there you would need to provide an Esperanto translation, if you wrote in English at first).

Doesn't taste even a quarter as good as brewed coffee. This must be a cultural thing. My semi-posh British relatives drink instant coffee without a qualm. But even a relatively low-end hotel in the US includes a coffeepot in the room, to brew your own coffee. Hotels outside the US, even relatively fancy ones, seem to have an electric kettle, with tea bags and packets of Nescafe. I found that shocking, particularly for high end hotels, who I felt should know better (Yes, I'm looking at you, Jumeirah Emirates Towers. If you're posh enough to have a special fruit delivery every afternoon, I think you can give me a real coffee pot, thanks)

Taste is a strange thing. I grew up with instant coffee, and even preferred it, but suddenly, about 10 years ago, I decided that I preferred brewed or filter coffee. Now I prefer the 'real stuff', but I'm quite capable of accepting instant from a friend, or making it if I'm in a hurry. Another example: I first came across Lapsang Souchong tea 10 years ago and thought it smelled ghastly, but a friend gave me some to try, which I drank without realising what it was, and thought it was OK. For some years after that, on some days I could drink it by the potful (that was before I came across FTGFOP, though).
