Slu,

I'm looking for a proper e-o translation of "subculture" (without mal-) in positive attitude. Do you have any idea or topical hint? Could "subkulturo" be fine? Mi opinas, ke e-o estas malsatige pri subkulturon, ĉu ne? Eat the kroc' (Adapt the success!) okulumo.gif In result I would like use the slogan:

"Alportigu via subkulturo kaj maturu al e-o ulo!" ("Bring Your Own Subculture (BYOS) and mature to one of these esperanto folks") means even if someone don't speak e-o right now s/he is highly welcome to participate at e-o events. Probably you English nat's know what I mean. okulumo.gif

*grrr*, BYOS sounds like BIOS. Yes, seems to be that sometimes e-o needs a Reboot. Maybe it's that Bug #1 again.

subcultural theory (negative attitude)

Dankon.

ĝp,

I believe so. In Kalocsay and Waringhien's Plena Analiza Gramatiko, section 402 refers to the use of sub- as a prefiksoido indicating lower rank. Butler's Step by step, section 390 makes it clear that a preposition may be used as a prefix, and section 1187 gives examples of the use of sub- in this way.

IMO yes. I see this word quite a bit too (and it's in Reta Vortaro).

Hhm, thanks for that. I didn't find it with the english "subculture". Just can be found via "subkulturo". Something new learned. okulumo.gif Anyway, what about the BYO subculture slogan? (I added it later after you folks wrote your replies)

qwertz: what about the BYO subculture slogan?
That's an English abbreviation for "Bring Your Own", so I imagine that an E-o equivalent would be something like AVP for "Alportu Vian Propran". I don't know whether any E-ists have actually used such a thing.

Your first question asked how to say "subculture" without "mal", but in fact, I am hard-pressed to come up with a translation of subculture WITH "mal"!

Sen ĝenoj/no worries. Then it's time to start-up with that or try if it works. rideto.gif

How about 'malsuper-kulturo' lango.gif

How's this for a mindboggler: "malkulturo" - what would be the opposite to culture, if there could indeed be such a thing without being a form of culture itself? okulumo.gif

@ Qwertz - if you're gonna have "AVP" the initials, perhaps having in very small brackets underneath (almost stylistically as if not needed) "alportu vian propran", for all of us who might not be familiar with "AVP" (or know it as "Aliens Vs. Predators" rido.gif).
