Saluton! I am Ren Spidell, a recently published fantasy romance novelist. I have decided to use Esperanto as the universal language that my fairies speak to each other. To that end, I must learn Esperanto. I also have a children's story that I am attempting to translate so I can publish in two language format, side by side EO and EN.

Where is the best place for a beginner like me to get help proof reading the occasional Esperanto dialogue in my novels, and this short story?

I will post samples if that is acceptable.

This seems to be a very good chance to raise public awareness~! I really like the idea of using Esperanto in fiction, which I myself do in a few SF stories~

Not being native English speaker myself, I will first wait for native and more experienced person from this part of the forum to come to help~ Or I may post it at the "About anything else" forum, where many experienced esperantists frequent.

Let's make that happen~!

This forum is a good place to get help with the dialogue etc. Lots of people will be willing to give you their opinions.

Also feel free to contact me privately and I'll help you out. I'm a tutor on this site, and also a member of the core team that runs this site.

Good luck as you get started with Esperanto, and I encourage you to use these forums when you have questions about anything at all. The Esperanto community is extremely friendly and helpful, and you should take advantage of it!

I have already spoken to some amazing people on this site, some that I never would have spoken to without basic knowledge of E-O. Now when my friends tell me it is a waste of time, I have a rebuttal. "Maybe, but have you ever read poetry written in Russia and talked about it with people in China?" Or, "Have you ever talked to authors from around the world in one shared language?" I can say I have.

I suggest that you include a little note to the reader in your stories that use Esperanto, a brief note at the end of the story that says that Esperanto is a real language, and gives information about where to go to learn it.

That's how I heard about Esperanto - through a note at the end of Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat books, which said that Esperanto is a real language, and that if you write to the Esperanto League for North America [and it gave the address] that you could do a free postal course.

I surely intend to. It isn't any fun if people don't know about it.
It would be great to have people learning Esperanto because of my books, and using it at comicon like some people use Klingon or Navi.

Given the demographic that speaks Esperanto, my surprise would be roughly ZERO if there were already a few people at comicon who speak it. Probably just the ones who speak it don't know one another and don't use it there.
