I and some interested friends are going to be hanging out at Club Mardi Gras from 10:30 to midnight on Sunday 08/22/2010. If you are in the Phoenix Az area and would like to check it out, message me.

I know, there are no other active groups locally that actually answer their mail. But I have interested members already.

I presented Esperanto at the planning meetup yesterday. Some people are interested. Wish me luck tonight. Next I will right song lyrics for my husband, the DJ to use in a new song.

It is 8am here and Feels Like: 91°f. I've been cleaning coops (bird cages) for an hour and I stink. So much for trying to get it done before the heat of the day. LoL

But the birds loved the rain last night. Thunder clouds and electric light storms knocked down trees. Nothing unusual. Desert trees lose branches every fall because of the wind.

At what club/institution/organization did you present Esperanto? Good luck.

That sounds good. rideto.gif There also excist an online rhyme vortaro = Rata Vortaro. It's a joke name because the words were extracted from the reta-vortaro.de. There also excist a PDF version.

Hhhm, to less e-o music labels around. I only know vinilkosmo-mp3.com (France)

I'm a member of Steam hub. We do fun costume dress up events that use elements of victorian age fashion and science fiction.

I put forth my opinion that Eo is very Steam hub/steam punk because it was made in that time period, and used in science fiction. Therefore it would be extremely hard core steampunk nerd to learn it.

Personally, I've always thought Esperanto and steam punk were a perfect match, for the same reasons you give.

But you rarely see them together. Although, I haven't devoured a lot of steam punk, so I might be claiming something that ain't so.

My complete agreement! Steampunkers should speak Esperanto. The idea behind steampunk, is a perfect mix of invention and style, idealism and history, old meets new. And now, to spread the word. Trekkies and tolkienists get their own lingvo, why not Steampunkers? Be jealous no longer!

Some few share my belief, enough to allow a space for E O to thrive.

I first about that this genre is called Steam punk. But I remember some movies with this style. Yes, good idea. rideto.gif

Donniedillon (Montri la profilon) 2010-aŭgusto-24 15:13:07

Being a bit of a steam punk myself I honestly never thought to put it together with Esperanto. I can certainly see how it would work in literature or movies though...the notes of the mad scientist are all in Esperanto and have to be decoded...Esperanto is the language of the underground resistance...developments in international communication use Esperanto as the Universal language...etc. I guess it's time to put on my thinking goggles, sit down at the mimeograph, and work on a story ridulo.gif

While on the ideas train, how about EO used for an "alternate" ex-Roman europe? e.g. around where Romanian is spoken, only a little to the west and north, or something like that?

I always felt that conlangs could be useful for those sort of alternative-europe steam punk settings, e.g. use some form of Folkspraak as the "northern european language" and EO and some other romance-langs as the "south european languages"...

Somehow this has gotten me thinking how much cooler Last Exile would have been if it combined its everything-in-greek-writing style with Esperanto or something understandable (which wasn't just English written with a greek keyboard layout).

Whoa, I really love steam punk! Nice to see that other Esperantists are a little bit "steam crazy", too okulumo.gif
I think it would be fun to read a steam punk story in Esperanto. Something like "The Difference Engine" mixed up with that what Donniedillon said rido.gif
