Barbara Anne, you won't emabrrass yourself - we're all learners here, and many more experienced Esperantists are happy to offer help and advice.

Hi Anne... What inspired me? Hm...

Actually I found out about it when I got accepted into the North Carolina School of Science and Math... and found that they offered it as a language... I was like, "I've never heard of this before... sounds like no one speaks it" but then I researched it, found the cool benefits of learning it, and liked it's ease and internationality trait that I just "had" to learn it. I'm still an early beginner, but I'm so bent on learning it fluently. No one thinks I'll be able to ever use it in the world, but I want to prove them wrong. It has already helped me with Latin, my current language study (I'll be in advance Latin this coming year for school).

Valete! (Latin for farewell)

Charlie:Hi everyone. Any chance I can muscle in on this conversation ?
Best regards,

Josh writes "No one thinks I'll be able to ever use it in the world, but I want to prove them wrong."

I don't know if there are any figures for those who can speak or are learning the language. Wikipedia gives such a range of possibilities.

Fact is you are already using the language and I guess you have classmates you speak with> How many are in the class and what exam, if any, are you hoping to pass?

Saluton! Mia nomo estas Mav.

That's about as far as I can go on introductions... There's a lot of Esperanto up in my head, I just can't seem to bring it out when I need to... ^-^ I'd love to join in this too..

Saluton! So is this conversation still going on and if so where is it being carried out? I am terrible at staying focused on my studies as much as I want to learn this language. Having people to converse with in Esperanto would help keep me motivated.

I am back studying with a vengeance and looking forward to talking with more of you.
Gxis,
Jason

Don't forget that lernu also offers an instant messenger (right hand side of the page, under "My corner"). You can talk to other users, probably at pretty much any hour of the day, right here on the site.

It's less like an instant messenger and more like a group chat, actually.

I've had some very cheery conversations in there that made Esperanto's potential come alive. It's astonishing to be part of a chat that links across the continents like this.

Oh, I would like to join in this also! Hopefully its not too late. I know I think alot of the basics, I'm just not good at speaking when its my turn, but its definetly worth a shot ridego.gif

I am on lesson 6 of the FEC. I am still shy about trying to write in Esperanto but I think after I complete lesson 10 I will definitely try and correspond more often. I have already been contacted by one friendly forum user and I have neglected writing him back until I get the basics down.

As for the folks here do you normally just request PMs and go from there? Do you post your email address? Would that be bad form? Would the spam bots find me then?! lol

Dankon.
