Anybody want to exchange messages with me in esperanto? I need somebody go help me get accustomed to the language as I go. Preferably somebody else who is just starting out, so that we can teach each other. I'm a 19 year old male, but I won't say anything more in English, as introductions are just about all I know how to say in Esperanto at the moment.

This may seem totally out of left field, but that was my grandmother's name. It's really cool to randomly come across someone with her name!
I'm probably old enough to be your grandmother, Andrew (I'm 51). I've never actually met another Barbara Anne. I live in the UK and assumed it was a popular name in the US since the Beach Boys sang the song ridulo.gif

You said 'was' when you spoke of her. I guess she isn't around? Hope that isn't too difficult for you...

My name is a strange thing since people at work call me Barbara and people at home call me Anne. Hardly anyone uses the full name, they always shorten it...I don't say anything...I don't mind as long as what I'm being called isn't offensiveridulo.gif

How did you come to want to learn Esperanto, Andrew?

Kind regards,

Barbara Anne

I'm impressed with the knowledge you have about your great-grandparents. Someone has been doing their family history it seems. I'm sure you were right about there not being too much surfin' music being heard in the cotton fields in the early 1940s!!

I'm glad to hear you enjoy life's curiosities, Andrew. So many poeple have lost that, even at sixteen. I find such a joy in life...so much to know and learn about. As long as I have the internet, I don't think I could ever be bored.

I'm interested in finding out more about Esperanto culture. My daughter is struggling to know why I'm learning a language when there is no Espera to visit. It's hard to explain that it is the whole planet I could potentially be in touch with. I guess it's also a bit like deaf culture; it's a community, not a nation/country.

Saluton Josh! Sorry I missed your message. Thank you for your message is Esperanto. I won't embarrass myself by replying when I really am such a beginner. I'll have a go later tonight when I have te time to make sure I'm getting it right.

What sparked your interest in Esperanto?
