I like to think of esperanto words that have a large number of morphems (smallest units of meaning in language)

for example:

orkolorĉashundidujo=a basket in which to place golden retriever puppies. It has the following morphemes:

or=gold
kolor=color
ĉas=hunt
hund=dog
id=offspring
uj=container
o=noun marker

That's seven morphemes.

Here's another one:

turnventegĉasaŭto=a vehicle used in the activity of storm chasing.

Sometimes, I just like to think of interesting combinations:

lumero: a photon
malmorta: alive
aĉiĝi: to worsen
fihundo: an ill-behaived dog
elektrero: electron
nigraĵo: an ideal blackbody radiator

Esperanto word games are fun, aren't they?

Although in everyday speech, if you put together too many morphemes, the meaning becomes unclear. For example, when I read your word "orkolorĉashundidujo" I understood that it was a gold-colored container for the retriever puppies.

Actually, I don't think "cxashundo" is an adiquate word for "retriever", but rather "hunting dog". Retrievers are a kind of hunting dog, but there are also pointers and setters.

If I'm reading that right (my esperanto is still very basic, so I'm not sure) I think it's saying that setters are "halthundoj." But it lists golden retrievers as orkolora reporthundo. If anyone more fluent would like to tell me what halthundoj actually are, I'd love it. ridulo.gif *not a dog person, I'm afraid, and I didn't know the difference between a golden retriever and a golden setter*

A 'setter' is a dog bred and trained to stand rigid when it has scented game. A retriever is bred for the purpose of fetching game that has been shot.
I'd have thought that ĉashundo was better kept for the hounds, breeds which are used for hunting such as the foxhounds (and own beloved Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen).

How long do you think it will be before we have a dogshow where the catalogue is written in Esperanto? rido.gif

One of the best suggestions for "cool" that I have ever heard is "malfeke".

Lately I've been using "malĝene!", when I am positively surprised ridulo.gif

My only qualm with Esperanto is the overuse of mal-. I think it works great as a general "un" or "de" prefix, but words like "malami" for "to hate" just don't seem right. However "malamita" or "malama" for "unloved" would be great.

When there are a lot of esperantists who are fond of dogs, or when esperanto becomes a standard second language.
