sudanglo:Perhaps someone with direct experence of using it should elaborate for Cornelio's benefit on the Pasporta Servo.
Something to remember about Pasporta Servo is that- when you're not using it travelling yourself- you can also be a host and welcome esperantists at your place.
It's another good way to practise the language.

A shameless plug...

I have amassed a lot of Epseranto links that you may find of great use on my blog:
Videos, dictionaries, podcasts, books, etc...

I have actually never used Pasporta Servo. I normally just find Esperantists over the internet, through people I know, or through the websites of local Esperanto clubs (or through searching the listings of lernu) when I'm going to visit a place.

If I'm travelling alone, it's usually for work and my lodging is already paid for; if I'm travelling on personal travel, I'm with another person and I don't normally want to ask for two people to stay at someone's house. Pasporta Servo is perfect for travelling alone on a budget, however.

That's not a problem.
On PasportaServo, hosts usually specify how many people they can accomodate, how long, what kind of accomodation they can give and to what kind of people ("non smokers", "only women") and so on.
So, you know before asking where you can go.

As far as I know most hosts accept couples anyway.
But of course, in this age of new technolgies, PasportaS° is not anymore the only way to find hospitable esperantists, as Erinja wrote.

Thanks for explaining to me about PasportaServo, I'd never heard of it. Now I've bookmarked the site.
I was just in Budapest, staying with friends but that's just the kind of opportunity to have met up with Esperantoists (hmm is that the proper word) that I would have really enjoyed.

and I'll check out Skype too for chats.
what a super discussion
