UEA should consider to buy the eo domain name and resell to other esperanto associations, how many esperanto associations in the world now ?
Certainly, there might be others who like eo too.
Many esperantists are all the time thinking of free stuff but they have the money to go for the UK every year.
nornen (Montri la profilon) 2015-novembro-16 00:23:17
Talisman:I don't understand, can you please expound on why .eo is "surely not" available.
vestitor:Only countries? So what are .net, .biz, .org. .info, .xxx ?
alkanadi:UEA should consider to buy the eo domain name and resell to other esperanto associations, how many esperanto associations in the world now ?All ASCII ccTLD identifiers are two letters long, and all two-letter top-level domains are ccTLDs. In 2010, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) began implementing internationalized country code TLDs, consisting of language-native characters when displayed in an end-user application. Creation and delegation of ccTLDs is described in RFC 1591, corresponding to ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country codes.
eo is a ccTLD, while epo is a gTLD. Good luck trying to register a ccTLD without being a country...
nornen (Montri la profilon) 2015-novembro-16 00:47:05
Gentlemen & Ladies:Mister Sloper is barking at the wrong tree. RFC 1591 states:
I propose that the rapidly-growing worldwide community of those who use
Esperanto on the internet be granted the domain extension [.eo] even
though there is no ISO recognised country of "Esperantoland". If Tonga
[.to] and Nauru [.nu] deserve domain hierarchies despite extremely small
populations, I think it not unreasonable to grant similar status to the
much larger community of Esperantists.
Thank you for your consideration!
Miko Sloper
Director, Esperanto League for North America
The IANA is not in the business of deciding what is and what is not a country. The selection of the ISO 3166 list as a basis for country code top-level domain names was made with the knowledge that ISO has a procedure for determining which entities should be and should not be on that list.
Trying to get Esperantujo into the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 would be the way to go.
However:
For quite some time now, individual persons or organisations interested in obtaining their “own” TLD have been requesting the inclusion of “new” country names into ISO 3166-1 in order to get a new alpha-2 code element from the ISO 3166/MA and subsequently a ccTLD from ICANN. Such requests are absolutely futile, however, because the only way to enter a new country name into ISO 3166-1 is to have it registered in one of the following two sources:(Emphasis mine)
United Nations Terminology Bulletin Country Names or
Country and Region Codes for Statistical Use of the UN Statistics Division
To be listed in the bulletin Country Names you must either be
a member country of the United Nations,
a member of one of its specialized agencies or
a party to the Statute of the International Court of Justice.

Maybe we can get eo through liberland https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberland
or some other similar process.
Technically it is easy and international law quite allow for "micronations"
How about .esp or .eox or even llz (as in LLZemenhoff)
This site helped me out a lot
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Internet_top...
I did notice that there was .g (maybe google), and it seems that is the only one letter word, how did that happen? on the wikipia site above it is a commercial registration
nornen (Montri la profilon) 2015-novembro-16 05:30:43
Talisman:How about .esp or .eox or even llz (as in LLZemenhoff).esp, .eox, .epo, .llz, and .esperanto should be no problem.
Also subdomaining wouldn't be a problem:
.esperan.to (registered in tonga) or .zamenho.fo (registered on the Faroe Islands).

Instead, couldn't you just buy a bright-red sports car to compensate? (Actually, you could buy a couple, since a TLD costs $185,000.)

00100100:Just out of curiosity, why does anyone need an .eo Top Level Domain?A TLD offers more credibility and status. Also, I think people would like the idea of all Esperanto material being in one place.

00100100 (Montri la profilon) 2015-novembro-17 15:28:09
Alkanadi:A TLD offers more credibility and status.Fair enough. People spend a lot of money on status symbols; who am I to judge their taste. I still think that the sports car works better...
Credibility, though? I'll admit, I don't see why you would think that. Have you looked at some of the domains out there?
.boo -- ghosts and spooky business
.pink -- those who like the color pink
.pizza -- pizza parlors
.ninja -- general expertise
.lol -- LOL: laughing out loud
Alkanadi:Also, I think people would like the idea of all Esperanto material being in one place.So...what you're saying is we should make it easy for a government to censor out Esperanto material, just by blocking a single TLD?
