The current situation in Mexico is basically a drug war with headless corpses showing up dumped at shopping malls etc.

I have heard that in some border towns where US residents used to pop across the border all the time, the Americans are now too afraid to go.

It's very regional but I would definitely talk with a local person before going to check on the situation, and check on your country's state department (or local equivalent) website for travel warnings.

I am pretty sure that some parts of Mexico would already have travel warnings from the US State Department if it wouldn't create such a huge political uproar to do so.

Regarding other courses, an alternative would be to attend SES in Slovakia (one week of courses but much less intensive than NASK) and then attend the IJK in Kiev. Each one of those events would cost you about EUR 150, so you're looking at roughly EUR 300 for registration, food, and housing - in total. Plus whatever it costs you get there and get from one to the other, and kill time in between. That would give you the added benefit of fewer opportunities to "cheat" (you won't find many native English speakers there)

I didn't know it was quite that bad, I knew there were beheadings but not like that....

But as the life of brian has taught me, always look on the bright side of life. At least there isn't much talk of bodiless heads shoko.gif!
