Esperanto time capsule

Thinking of time capsules (there's a wiki article on making them), I wondered about a time capsule containing Esperanto materials.

Questions to consider:

1. Preservation; the packing should withstand the sad fate of some of the contents of the time capsules of the children's TV show Blue Peter.

2. The contents. What Esperantaĵoj will be interesting to the people of (say) 100 years from now? Maybe some copies of magazines like Monato. If the capsule is to be left unopened for much longer, maybe some books on learning the language.

3. Valuables might not be a good idea because they would attract the wrong kind of attention. Nor perishable articles. Plastic articles might be a good idea because of their durability.

How would you construct it for durability? What would you put in? And how would you keep the memory alive (apart from registration with ITCS)?

Perhaps a vacuum-packed NPIV 2005. Maybe in 100 years' time all dictionaries of Esperanto will be digital frequently updated versions.

That's a good idea. Maybe in fact a small library. A suitable location might be the grounds of Esperanto House in Barlaston beneath the kvinpinta sculpture, to be opened when the lease runs out. But the EAB would have to be convinced. Perhaps you could come to the BK in Eastbourne in three months and talk about it?

On the grounds that a lot of archaeology of dead civilizations involves middens and rubbish pits, maybe a better place would be in a landfill site? ridulo.gif

If it's in a garbage heap, there will have to be some kind of plan for bringing attention to its existence after some amount of time. Otherwise, it will most likely never be found.

Or be found when our future descendants go testing the land around such areas and go "my goodness this ground is so contaminated the soles of our feet are glowing" okulumo.gif

Are there such things as "communal caches" or something like that which'd make discovery in the future irresistible to archeologists?

The PIV is being digitised as we speak. See vortaro.net
