Kiam mi devus uzi tiun ĉi verbon (adstringi)? Mi legis pri ĝi en PIV kaj mi estas ankoraŭ konfuzata. Ĉu ĝi havas la saman signifon kiel la verbo (sekigi)

When should I use this verb (adstringi)? I read about it in PIV and I still am confused. Is it the same as the verb (sekigi)?

Adstringa means "astringent", which refers to a substance that constricts body tissues to prevent discharge. So I would say that astringi (which in Butler's dictionary is "constrict") could mean "dry" or sekigi in this medical sense.
The definition in PIV 2005 is consistent with the above: kuntiri la histojn kaj malpliigi la sekreciojn. I translate: "draw together the tissues and cause the discharges to decrease".
I wonder where you saw this term. Was it a novel or short story with a medical aspect?

No I'm slowly going throw the whole of PIV memorizing everything that seems important, so that's where I found it... Now the strange thing is I did find in Google a hit for "adstringa dieto" any ideas on what that would mean? Maybe a constrictive diet?

Fruit can also be astringent, for example the astringent persimmon, (adstringa persimono). You bite into one of these babies and your mouth will go dry and your lips'll be pulled behind your teeth, ie. your mouth tissues constrict to prevent the discharge of saliva. However, if you peel it and hang it by its stem in the sun for a few days, like so, it will transform into a sweet persimmon. Bongusta!

Very sweet (astonishingly, especially if you can compare it with an undried astringent persimmon which you accidentally bit into!), with no hint of sourness like citrus fruit; doesn't have the tartness of an apricot; soft and juicy inside, but dry on the outside, where a little sugar also crystalizes. One of the sweetest dried fruits I've encountered, next to dates. There's a tiny hint of a nutmegy spice, but it's slight and I can't quite put my finger on it. A bit like a dried pear in some ways.

The texture inside reminds me a little of a tomato, but without the pulpy seedy bits. To me the taste is sort of "generic sweet", it's very sweet but without a very prominent flavor. That is, it doesn't have a strong flavor like an orange or a pineapple. I like the pear comparison.
