Thanks for the replies, again. I understand it much more now. Is there an English resource that's as good as the Bertilow site?

There is no explanation of Esperanto grammar in English that is as complete as Bertilo's PMEG.

However, "Being Colloquial in Esperanto" is an excellent English-language grammar resource.
