LyzTyphone:Here is an article (or "page") arguing for the use of Jubilea symbol. Not all the contentions are valid or relevant today, maybe, but sure it has made me aware of this possible improvement to our informatoining strategy.I read the page, but I disagree that a simple star is in any way "militant" in character or misleading. The page shows stars used to represent (a) militaries, (b) Islam and other religions, (c) esoteric belief systems, (ĉ) political parties, (d) the circus, (e) Christmas. That's a lot of different meanings! If anything, that proves to me that a star is SO generic that anyone could use it for anything!
I could make a similar page about a jubilee symbol claiming that it represents sports, taoism, alchemy symbols, symbols for bathroom fixtures, a Euro symbol, a German recycling symbol, a Gucci logo, the stylized "Allah" symbol from the Iranian flag, not to mention, the logo of the Green Bay Packers US football team.
Of course the melon logo is not exactly like any one of those logos, but when I see the melon symbol, those types of logos are what come to mind.

erinja:Sorry, those types of logos come to your mind. Probably not to everyones.

I advocate to seperate the Esperanto core = uncle LLZ's general legacy = grammar/writing rules/root words etc.
from
the wrapping = Jubilea melon symbol, Green star Shuriken, E-o spiritualism etc.
Similar like the XML paradigma does. Btw. XML is intented to save longevity of data structures*. Something what could well behave to Esperanto, too. In my opinion. (Sorry, just came into my mind shortly.)
*i.e. MS-Word/OpenOffice word processor documents can be proecessed (hopefully?) even in XXXX years due to their non-binary plain text XML data format.

At any rate, my point is that every symbol will bring a wide range of associations to people's minds, so it seems disingenuous to accuse the green star in particular of giving a bad impression of Esperanto. To me, the very worst that could be said about the green star is that it is too generic and represents nothing, since it represents everything.
But then again, what do two E's formed in the shape of a melon represent? It makes Esperanto seem like a failed project of the EU.

erinja:Probably some refreshing funny matter. Same like after eating a melon in the hot summer. Just a assumption.
But then again, what do two E's formed in the shape of a melon represent?
erinja:Tsss, tsss. Who isn't experimenting, those isn't make any mistakes, ĉu ne? Btw., does there excist any failed EU project?

Dammit Evildela, your description of it made me think it was something I'd never seen before but it was just that little round thing .
Erinja:(a) militaries, (b) Islam and other religions, (c) esoteric belief systems, (ĉ) political parties, (d) the circus, (e) ChristmasApart from the circus (crazy fellows ), the rest have strong similarities - strong symbols of identity, of exclusive ideologies, being religious or political in nature.
Unfortunately, EO is not well known among your average joe, nor unique enough, to be just an outlier like a circus, and thus may be bunched in with everything else unfortunately.
As for the melon, melons are nonreligious, nonpolitical, and tasty, and in Japanese popculture are fun to have at the beach with a bokken to break it up. So unless there's a religious political group who want to take over all beaches and make them property of the watermelon cult, we should be good!

ceigered:Grrr, "Water melon cult". Btw. there excist a very, very strong similarity between water melons and humans. Both contain a lot of water.

Apart that joking. In my opinion that funny comparison are not intented to draw a silly picture of the E-o community. Even if that could looks like that for E-o movaduloj. In my opinion, the capability to laugh about themselves and E-o matters should be part of an relaxed E-o community. It can aerate serious matters which could be the base for optimistic evolution or self-reinvention (same like a Website relaunch). Just my personal opinion: For me the jubilea melono shows an more relaxed and no-worrying attitude. I see no problem if people eat the Jubilea melono simbolo. Contrary to that I personaly feel an dissuasive and somewhat "revolution movement" attitude of the green star. I don't wanna be part of a "revolution movement". I wanna be part of a relaxed E-o community which I can join and disjoin temporarly as I like and regardless being welcome everytime. In my opinion most movements can not handle that in a relaxed manner. Movements mostly want 100% of someones energy. Sorry, not from me.

I'm one person not even working full time in graphic design and relatively inexperienced.
That jubilee symbol is absolutely atrocious. I can't imagine a more terrible design... It's so bad lol
At least the star is a time honoured proven design, even if it is overused. ... But that jubilee, man that's so bad. It's only recognisable because it's ugly.
There's so many things you could do with the Esperanto idea in designing a logo. It has lots of scope + many different ideas for a good designer. Why they chose something like a melon with no deeper meaning is really beyond me!

qwertz:Actually, come to think of it, it sort of does make EO look like a EU project, the failed part, well, like all things EU (including the EU), whether or not it has failed is like beauty, in the eye of the beholdererinja:Tsss, tsss. Who isn't experimenting, those isn't make any mistakes, ĉu ne? Btw., does there excist any failed EU project?

@ Genjix - Nice stuff bruva! Might I ask what the more dynamic of the two lower animations is meant to be (the one that looks reminiscent of an 80's video game)? I got mesmerised by it trying to figure it out
@ General conversation:
You know what's catching on a flag? Body parts. I mean, I can only think of the Isle of Man with it's 3 legged triskelion when it comes to the anatomy on flags. Thus, how about replacing that star with this:
(or )? I mean, it's the
(don't put THE Zam's head, especially without the glasses, otherwise people will think we're a bunch of eco-friendly bolsheviks)

ceigered:how about replacing that star with this:Actually that symbol looked like a green devil's head to me, till I looked closely and thought the "horns" might be something else - a strange hairstyle, or antennae of creatures from space. The latter would makes Zam not human. So I'll stay with la verda stelo (Strains of En la mondon venis nova sento.... )
(or )? I mean, it's thehumanhead! You don't get much better than that for saying what EO's all about!
