Hi all!

The Vortaro thing on the website is good (and by ‘good’ I mean ‘awesome’), but it would be more useful to me as a separate program (ie, not in the browser).

So I downloaded and installed the standalone “La Vortaro” from http://la-vortaro.pagesperso-orange.fr/ and, while it's useful, it feels a little old-fashioned. So I whipped up a program to let me search the wordlist (EN to EO and back again).

Now, I'm thinking this may be useful to others and I would like to give it away (for free of course), but the page at http://la-vortaro.pagesperso-orange.fr/ukopirajtoj... says “Estas malpermesite … uzi la vortlistojn kiuj akompanas la programon sen nia konsento” which I believe translates to something like “It is forbidden … to use the wordlists which accompany the program without our consent”.

So, after all that, my question is: Whose consent do I need, if anybody's, before I can distribute this program? I wouldn't distribute the wordlist itself, my program just requires it to already be installed.

Hopefully somebody can help, or point me to where I should be asking this?

I'm not sure what Lernu's policy is, but for what its worth, its not hard to screen-scrape translations, for example:

The output is somewhat difficult to parse into a useful data structure. I looked at the javascript to see how its done on this site, and I found it a bit difficult to follow. It would be nice if the Vortaro script outputted JSON instead -- until then, here is some F# code which parses most responses fairly well.
