I'm tired of just listening to clips or podcasts which claim to be actual online radio stations. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to start an online station with me. I have the hosting taken care of, but I have no programming. Was wondering if anyone wanted help me come up with some programming at all?

Oh and if you compose your own music (in any way) please contact me. I would love to have it on my station.

Hi ki4jgt,

Actually I tried to start a sort-of radio station myself - it was just a continuous music thing with nice idents and so on, but the plan was to get that going and then add pre-recorded and maybe even live shows, and so on. But unfortunately it never really got off the ground - also the bitrate was a bit rubbish because I was serving it over my DSL connection.

But if you're interested in this sort of thing as well then I reckon we could probably have some success as a joint project - why don't you drop me a PM with your ideas and we can discuss it and hopefully launch something! ridulo.gif

Your best bet is probably to use a program called icecast and, depending on how much bandwidth you have, keeping the bandwidth setting down to either 64 kb/s (which is fine for voice) or 128 kb/s (which will suffice for music). PM me if you would like help setting up the programs on your server. I haven't actually set them up before, but I do have some experience with servers and I am more than willing to help you start a project.

I have the hosting figured out. I just need help in the software side of things.

Just playing the devil's advocate... what would a continuous online "radio station" offer that podcasts don't, unless you were planning to have DJs working on it live around the clock?

I always hated that phrase. The devil always tries to hide the truth. Exposing it is playing the good guy

Anyway, I am looking for DJs. They can work from their own homes (Provided they have the proper equipment)

Mostly diverging from the main topic until the end

(Actually, the Devil's Advocate is a nickname for an old institutional role in the Catholic church that was used for processing saints basically, where the Devil's Advocate would argue how unworthy, bad etc the saint is and God's Advocate would argue how holy and wonderful they are. The Devil's Advocate was abolished though some time I think in the 1700/1800s, since the pope at the time I believe thought it was too harsh, untrusting and devoid of faith, or just REALLY wanted to win the title of having the most saints in his era).

I like the term because it questions the way we think of things, how the winners and majority are right and the minority, pariahs and vagabonds aren't - especially in an era when democracy (Majority-wins) is seen as being the only "righteous" style of government. So I don't think anyone should worry about the religious connotations.

I think a podcast anyway would be easier unless your station is going to be local and therefore comply with local timing lango.gif

UTC. . . and I'll have a podcast, along with all the other DJs who want to take part. I'm planning on allowing other users to login from anywhere in the world and play DJ too. So it is literally a continuous stream of podcasts. As more bands agree to have their music played, more music time will be taken up and less talk shows. But the DJs will still be taking turns running it (So I will have a DJ on staff 24/7

Is this supposed to be in Esperanto or about Esperanto music? In that case I definitely support it and would like to offer my music knowledge and perhaps an hour everyday.
