I think the first time I heard about Esperanto was in an article I read in some mainstream American magazine, probably in the 1980s... a humorous end piece where the author interviewed people who loved speaking Esperanto because they could basically sleep around all across Europe.
Does anyone else remember that? I remembered it recently and just tried to look it up. I suspected it was in Time, but I just searched it and now I'm not so sure.
You can search all the back issues of Time, by the way, and they have a lot of old articles on Esperanto. Interesting stuff....

After a little googling, I found a few articles in the TIME magazine online archive, but not from the 80s on this topic.
However I haven't been able to find a corresponding online archive for Newsweek magazine (the main news website is another matter).
Does anyone know where the Newsweek magazine archive is available online, if at all?
