Know one's place (like on the planet, or in the grand scale of things).
Konsciu onia loko.

Is this right? If not, how would you express it?

Thanks.

Scii, kie sia loko estas?

Scii, al kie oni apartenas?

Just guessing...

Amike,

Daniel.

Oni konsciu/sciu sian lokon en la universo = You should be aware of/know your place in the universe.

The English word "place" has a special meaning here that isn't strictly locative. The Esperanto [k/]rango[/i] might actually capture it better. To know your place is to know your (lowly) position in an ranked order.

Yes, 'rango' could be good. I was also thinking of 'rolo', but then I thought that perhaps the intended meaning of 'loko' could be understood in the context? According to ReVo, 'loko' is also sometimes used figuratively in the sense of 'situacio/posteno'.

This brings us back to something else that we spoke about recently:

"Kion vi farus se vi estus SUR mia LOKO" (perhaps this is better than 'se vi estus mi')

ceigered (Rodyti profilį) 2011 m. gegužė 5 d. 07:21:17

Dang, a hard one, since "know your place" can be used with regards to different roles, as in "mind your own business".

"Sciu via graveco" doesn't work does it?

Leke:
It seems to me that your idea is either that of our importance (ceigered's idea, certainly possible IMO), or you are speaking of our role in the scheme of things.

So it could be scii nian gravecon or scii nian rolon, which in turn could be followed by e.g.

en socio
en la homaro
sur la planedo
en la plano de Providenco ktp,

depending on what kind of "importance" or "role" you have in mind.

Whoops, stuffed that up somehow... Sciatu via graveco? Sciu via gravece? Sciu gravy? Meh, I'm sure it wasn't grava okulumo.gif

(but in all seriousness thanks darkweasel that should be sciu vian gravecon, but by all means your importance, if it is so big that it has transcended and become its own conscience being, is allowed to know something if it wants rido.gif)

Yes, it's more like importance, but in this case I'm reflecting on my importance in the Universe or more like the lack of it -- Thinking with an atheist's perspective.
