I also noticed that you don't like English, it's a difficult language to master, lots of people are forced to learn it to get (better) jobs (or even to study some subjects, like aviation or computers science), but the language itself should not be blamed for that. And the (English/American/Australian/etc.) people in this forum is not guilty either. On the contrary, these are people who realize that we need a really international language (BTW: as somebody already said, English speaking people who become Esperantists should be doubly congratulated).

This thread is about an interesting article (though a bit biased, I would say) on "Lingua Franca" and (maybe) the future role of English in this matter.

By the way... you're all wrong... It's not Chinese, it's not English... the future is Spanish, THAT is the best language... it sounds beautiful, you know how one word should be pronounced as soon as you see it written, it has great culture and literature... and it's MY native language!!! (just joking, if you didn't notice)

Let's finish the discussion and focus on constructing a better future, not on destroying our present.

Please take in mind that these politics often relates to some very special government administration. Also, the U.S. has 310.955.497 inhabitants. So imagine, what politic trouble is happening behind the scene. I'm sure not everybody agrees what happened at governmental level. Also TV and Radio don't show everytime the atmosphere of all people of the U.S. Someones has really have to distinct that. In my opinion.

qwertz, you seem to be a little confused. I'm not the one desperately and rather comically using bold capital letters. I'm sorry that I've hit such a nerve. You could do well to take some of your own advice, just make sure it's quite a few big gulps of that wine.

Take a deep breath and look at what was said in this thread. Everyone was agreed on the matter until Ceigered kicked off with his rambling comments, and then you ably supported him.

English as future lingua franca is rather unlikely. It is difficult and requires at least 6 years of hard learning to become communicative. Right now more foreigners are using English than natives, but the variant used is quite different to what the English have been used to - it's Globish. So, I think:

1. If the economic dominance of the anglosphere is to weaken, English will be replaced by some other language (Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, ...your vote...).

2. International English will be not English as we know it, Jim. The same happend to Latin when the Roman Empire colapsed - what are French, Italian, Spanish - post-latin languages? Globish is the candidate.

3. Unlikely - people will get wiser and choose esperanto for their international communication. This is not to happen. The history shows us that the dominant language was always the language of some superpower. Esperanto is unsuported. I think, that our goal as esperantist should be not fina venko. Look at the aims of raumists - they are extremely wise and up to date.
